    Hello, people !
It's difficult for me to make my choice about what external dvd burner for my computer to buy. I looked in some stores and in Internet and I got more confused. What activities I would do using this device ? Burning some videos (from camcorder, VCR, TV, iPod, pc) and data on dvd disks. Also playing movies (dvd, avi , divx , xvid , wmv, mpeg) and music (mp3, wav, wma). I know some parameters that are important , like : sustained data transfer, recording speed, different media files that may be played & recorded, etc. , but I need help.
What would you say about these optical drives I found in a local store (which one is better and more reliable): LG GSA-5169D (http://www.lge.com/products/model/detail/gsa-5169d_1_6.jhtml) or HP DVD 840e
    (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=bg&lang=en&dlc=en&product=1101874&docname=c00457552#N445)
Their prizes are almost the same. Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Don't bother with the HP, support sucks. The LG model I believe is USB only. Ideally you want firewire too. The LG GSA-5163 is a better choice. Sony DRU810UL is also excellent. In fact that is the one to go for currently.

In fact in my area there isn't available LG GSA-5163 , and Internet purchasing is difficult . Although 5169D has only USB 2.0 interface , it will be good for me . There's in a S-Video and RCA jacks (for camcorders, VCRs, TVs, etc.) at the back of the burner and a function called one touch recording. But even if performing this function one cannot use the dvd rewriter without a pc. Nevermind , I think this is a good choice for me . Thanks a lot for your advice !

    Hi,
The LG is probably a good choice for you. USB will usually simply mean that 16x is just a pipe dream, especially when writing. But you shouldn't encounter any problems @ 12x.
