Need some help encoding video for a new device.

So here's the history. I got a new device and it can play video off SD cards. I spent quite a bit of time trying to get the encoding right. I've looked through the manual, Google, etc. The only way I was able to encode a video to get it to work on the device was to use an older version of Handbrake (0.9.3) and encode the file as an Mpeg-4 XviD with AVI as the container. That worked perfect. However, I'd like to use the latest version of Handbrake, or even different software if that will work. Here's the list of acceptable formats according to the manual. I appreciate any help.

 

Your saying that newer versions of Handbrake failed to produce a compatible file?

Compare the good and bad output video properties with MediaInfo and see what's different.

You might want to try AviDemux or AutoGk (depending on the source video).

 

The newer version of Handbrake doesn't allow avi as a container and so far that's the only way I've been able to get videos to play on the device. I'm trying DVDFab right now and on the first test it worked. But, I noticed this with Handbrake also, when the video is playing if I jump forward or backwards in the video I lose audio until I restart the video.

I wasn't aware that Handbrake had dropped AVI - I hadn't used it for a while.
I've been routinely converting TV recordings (mpeg2) to XviD using StaxRip.

 

My audio is way out of sync with AGK no matter what I set the audio settings to

 

I'll give that one a shot next.

 

This is really becoming a pain in the ass. StaxRip worked on one file flawlessly but gives me errors every single time since.

 

So I just installed the latest Handbrake and encoded one file with every single combination of methods possible and none of them will play on the device. Sucks too, because Handbrake is the only program that consistently works. Argh.

 

Staxrip is generating errors or the output is no good for the device?

 

StaxRip worked on a few files absolutely perfectly. Then on others it starts giving errors. I've got several different errors depending on the input file. One of the errors was "Video compression error: The source image format is not acceptable". I'd get that about a 1/4 of the way into the process on 2 different files now.


I'm trying DivX converter again right now....
