Have build some systems in the past & have upgraded my old comp to the limit. This is mostly for video editing, some gaming etc. I want a lot of bells & whistles & enough power for add on's later. This is what I've been looking at & want to order parts as soon as I can get some good suggestions. processor: intel quad q-9550-for sure case: coolermaster cosmos 1100 full tower-for sure cooler: coolermaster v8--would I have room? vid. card: xfx Ge Force 9800GT-would two in sli work or will one be sufficient (these are on sale at New Egg + free game) MOB: Gigabyte GAX48-DQ6--or any other suggestions? HD: A 250gb for system, possibly 600+ for video and an external e-sata 500gb for backups; I don't understand how raid should be set up. Memory: ? Corsair for sure but which ones? Even though xp can only utilize 3.25 gb. can I add 4gb? I plan to upgrade to windows 7 later. os: xp pro I want this system to be stable & last for a while. Thanks in advance; you guys are awsome!
Alright, your case is ALOT of money, for nothing. Sure the case is important, has to have a good airflow and must be stable, but the one you chose is just ridiculous. Get this case : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021&Tpk=nine hundred Graphic card : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102770 RAM : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122 Fan : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118223
Thanks for the info, but I forgot to mention about the power supply. How much power do I need. I've looked at the coolermaster 600/900/1100 even though the price is high; any suggestions on this? So it's ok to install the 4g of ram even though xp won't use the .75gig that is left? One other question: will the case take a floppy drive? Thanks
Right, let's see... Q9550- Quality(now that the price has been reduced) Case- I have a 900 myself and am really happy with it however that coolermaster looks awesome! Haven't tried it though. Cooler- That also looks awesome but I haven't had the pleasure of testing one Mobo: X48-DQ6 Quality also! Graphics: Your motherboard of choice supports Crossfire X so you are better off getting ATi GPU's. I myself have a 3870 Toxic and am very pleased. Their price on Newegg is half of what we pay in the UK so perhaps you might grab a couple of those or go for the 4870's. HD: 300 GB velociraptor (very fast)x2 in Raid0 + Spinpoint F1 1tb for your vids+ WD My Book 500GB as external. The Mobo already has a RAID controller so you may make use of that. Here is a link to help you understand RAID better: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=830 Make sure you read it. It makes a HUGE difference. Memory: Read the supported RAM page at the Gigabyte website to make sure you get the the right one. http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/MemorySupport/motherboard_memory_ga-x48-dq6.pdf If your RAM of choice is not listed perhaps you might drop'em an email to find out. There you have it. That's my contribution. Hope it helps.
