just bought & installed a sony DWQ120A dvd-rw drive (oem) now I need to download a driver. My KHypermedia burner stopped writing so I replaced it with this one. I use Nero 7 if that makes a difference. I now know that oem drives are not supported by the manufacter. I figured that I was replacing one with another so a bare drive was all I needed (live and learn)you can teach an old dog but you need his attention first! Thanks for any help
Firmware for your burner is available here: http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php Just search for "DW-Q120A". I think Windows XP (or whichever Win version you are using) has drivers for you to use to recognize the drive itself. The disk that came with my Sony burner had Nero on it, but I didn't install that until some time later. Didn't need a driver beyond what was on my XP system. There was a newer firmware available on the site noted when I bought the drive. So, I flashed it right away.
I am not all that computer savy. I found the firm ware and opened the second one then I did a reboot but it said it cannot find the driver altho it said it found it when it was booting up I don't know what to do next. When I installed the first drive it did eveything it self.
I went back and saved both, rebooted the computer and I think I'm good to go. Many Thanks to rulisky I spent a few hours looking on line when I foung this forum, the knowledge of this member if its a sample will keep me coming back. I actually found it early in my search but didn't post my question untill later. Thanks again
There are three drivers listed on that page. Which one should be used? What's the difference between them?
what exactly does firmware upgrade change on this particular drive??? firmware upgrade you speak of is "PYS3", correct?? just asking because I am a little weary of installing it, even though it is directly from the Sony European website....is this where you found it??I am currently running included PYS1 firmware by the way
I downloaded both and let the computer pick the one it wanted. I assume because I have an oem unit (made by sony but not supported by sony) it used the oem firmware. I figure its like a printer. you hook it up and let the computer search for the driver it seems to know which one it needs. I don't care which it chooses as it worked. and like yourself I'm a plug and play type of guy. hope this helps
