Hey all, I've got a 3.5 gb file that I'm going to be putting onto a flash drive, and I was wondering if compressing it in ".zip" would do the job, or if I would need to compress in ".rar" or any other format, I'm familiar with ".7z" and I use 7zip. I was also wondering about how large the file would be, thanks.
The level of compression achieved by the mentioned archivers will depend on two main factors... The file content and the settings used... WinRar and WinZip offer Fast, Store and High compression levels... The compression achieved also depends on the content... Some files in common used are compressed already... JPEG for exsample is a compressed bitmap, mp3 a compressed wave file... A single file of 3.5Gb is probably Video..?? If the content is Video, and the format VOB/TS, then DVD Shrink will probably take it down to 2Gb... It is unlikely zip or rar wold achieve this for video unless it's full frame avi... Zip and Rar are best kept for text based documents...
