I have a eVGA Geforce 6800 video card. Problem is it gets to about 90 degrees playing newer games like FABLE and it is a serious problem to me and to all you reading. I would like to know what is the best heatsind/fan combo I can get that will really cool it down. My video card is NOT overclocked and I'm not setting the games graphics to high Fable is running at 800x600 with 2xAA with a framerate of 60fps. Please help...

MAke sure you have good ventilation with you computer or add a couple of extra fans to cool the insides down...or open the case and leave it open.

Yeah I still need to install some rear fans (recommend some good ones maybe?) but on the bright side my PSU is on the outside of my comp. I have a stock fan on the Geforce with a PCI slot fan right next to it in an attempt to cool it down some more.

hi i have bfg 6800gt with good cooling. i was lucky my case has a 80mm side fan the blows perfectly on my vid card. the only thing i added for "assurance" was rear pci mounted exhaust fan. installed it under the card to suck the heat off the card. its not the Nv silencer investment but works for me, but i aslo have 4 other 80mm fans blowing air into the case from the front and back. and an 80mm top case fan blowing the hot air out as heat rises..
as far as gaming temps 40-50c on air only... but system not O/C either and as days get cooler temps stay cool too. hope that helps.

p.s. i just check card temp via speed fan

Well I also looked at artic cooling as a logical solution although I'm skeptical as to whether or not the one posted will work on a regular Geforce 6800 (none GT or Ultra)

i have a silencer as jonni told you about.works pretty good.running doom3 on ultra,hl2 all high setting, fear on high.never gets above 54c.before silencer,pc was getting temps so high it would shut pc off.also take some rubbing alcohol and remove the gray stuff that comes with silencer[dosent cool at all]and replace it with artic silver 5.the silencer took my 6800gt agp video card from 60c-75c and lowered it too 45c-54c.forgot to tell you ,just built this rig running high and ultra setting on a agp video card, unbeliveable, cant overclock mobo but this mobo flys.asrock 939-sata2 motherboard.yea jonni love this setup,i forgot to download the driver for the x64 3700+ cpu.now this baby is flying.cant overclock but who cares when you can run doom on ultra with a 256mb ram card.unbeliveable they say you needed 512 mb ram to run in ultra...id software was wrong all you need is this slammin mobo peace

the best cooler period is the Zalman VF700-Cu. I was getting similar temps (high 80s) and living with it but the summer heat forced me to upgrade. Now my card idles at 50C and hits the upper 60s max while gaming. I have a 6800gt overclocked to 400/1.1. Here is a review from nvnews. If you do a seach in the forum there, you will find additional info. Most people say it is better than the nv silencer.

i dont know about that, cause your hitting upper 60c when gaming.alittle higher and that pc will shut down.do you have artic silver 5 on it?its running pretty hot.have the same card made by bfg overclocked to 422 and my mem at 1.12.my card came oc at 370 megs.the silencer as described above/w artic silver 5 stays at 54c full load doom 3 ultra settings, running the game for like two hours and then alt tab drop to windows desktop to check temps.at 54c everytime.if your card is running at 65,66,67,68,69,70c it is too hot.71,72,73,74c goodnight the pc will crash and shut down.i hope this helps you out dude...peace...the video card will only stress for so long and then boom boom, out goes the lights....lol

rugripper you are mistaken. the 6800 line can easily hit 80 before it starts to overheat and even then it won't break until 120C. if your system was crashing at 60 something else was overheating.

this is true but as the temps rise,so does your ability to get perfect speed and frame rates,no artifacting, etc.when my 6800gt started rising above the 60c mark,i would get crashes, artifacting, lag in pic,not talking about the web connection.the cooler the card is the better it will run.i not talking about complete failure.i think complete failure is 85c if im not mistaken.

heres my thing:the cooler the card, the better the card will run.this includes more options in game settings like...anti,1024 x 768,etc.if the card is smoking hot it wont perform as well.believe me i know.i put artic silver on gpu and ram what a difference, dont buy the silencer 5.worked for a month and then started not to cool anymore.back to the original hs/fan..stock...came on the bfg oc 6800gt.my temps are know 48c idle 57c load.got it oc to a 422/109

hope this explains what i was trying to infer.....peace
