    @ZippyDSM:
I've had the HD-A1 HD-DVD player from Toshiba for a few days now and it has no trouble playing DVD's and Audio CD's. It actually does an excellent job of upconverting regular DVD's to 1080i - even better than my Denon DVD player which costs twice as much.

Current HD-DVD releases are dual layer 30GB discs. BluRay still has to come up with dual layer releases.

    Just my 2 cents.

i had the magazine where they reviewed the hd-dvd player, this is the brief side of things. i also posted on here somewhere this info. basically from what i have seen and read, the player is OK. nothing great, but certainly not all bad. its the first of its kind so some of these cons mentioned are to be expected. im sure things will change in time....

    PROS:
    1. HD-DVD at times easily offers the finest home-theater experience we've had.
    2. There's an Ethernet jack on the back so you can connect it to the Internet and download firmware upgrades or access online content to supplement titles
    3. The HD DVD menu system is outstanding
    4. cheaper than blu-ray players
    CONS:
    1. Expensive(in general)
    2. Limited selection of HD DVDs
    3. No 1080p output (surprising, consider the movies carry 1080p)
    4. Excruciatingly slow start-up. Takes 45 seconds to load an HD DVD
    5. Frustrating remote-control layout. No lights/backlights on remote-control buttons.
    6. Numerous image artifacts during 720p output.

    @ZIppyDSM:
I watched 2 HD-DVD rentals from Netflix last night. They had scratches typical for any Netflix disc but they played through without a hitch.

Actually I went to my local f.y.e. to preorder a 60Gig PS3 and i got a $699 price for the 60 and $599 for the other although fye could be scimming a little because they are expensive on everything else but EB Games won't start pre-orders till October. and 1 key point BUY THE 60GIG It has bluetooth, better HDTV, wireless, and dual gigabit among other things that according to both Sony (in small print) and the manager at EB the cheaper 1 dosn't have.

Ya Your right they do I was just doing the specs off the top of my head, but i like the fact that theyre using BT controllers because you won't get interference with wireless routers. One thing I have noticed that I found interesting is the fact that they are using 2.5"(laptop) SATA drives which I havn't seen for sale anywheres yet.

I have no dout when the PS3 launchs the specs will magcily change some,as for model changes the PS3 changed litte Versions 1-7 was it had the Japan USB port with the 2 normal Ports but everythign else stayed the same altho chipset alterations amke USB equipment compatabilty fun soemtimes (the PS2 slim models are a pain with some usb stuf version 12+)
I think the PS2 is currently at 14 Versions and 2 "models".
ompabilty of aprts between the versions is even more obsurce ><

yup, the PS3 is going to be one hell of a beast. Sony always raises the bar even higher every generation even when people doughted that games could be on dvds sony proved them wrong and they may do it again with blue ray. This is one reason why I love Sony.

Im defiantely seeing a pattern here:

    playstation- CD's

    Playstation 2- DVD's

    Playstation 3- blue ray disk

Playstation 4- even though its to early Ive seen reports that sony will no longer use disk formats, instead theyll use a "physical harddrive". Youll no longer have to got to the store to buy games, instead you can download full games onto the harddrive including episodic content.

playstation 5- N/A yeah right, its not going to be around for about 15 to 20 years, how should I know.

Playstat..... never mind. you get the picture sony always goes beyond, and I cant wait for the PS3.

    Peace Out!

Not only do I see nothign but trouble with full downlaodable content it remvoes my inrest in gameing no used games no point in paying the man for subpar games, altho the only way they wil go full download content is if the US and japan have free basic (128KB-256KB) boardband for all

I can do that with other consoles

    N64 cart

    GameCube
    mini ninDVD

    Nintendo WII
    NinDVD format,Controller inovation,Downloadable content,

    Nintendo ??-1
Winner of the preivoius format war BR/HD DVD
50/50 chance newer controler shceme, more downlaodable content think of haveing all 16bit games rom and CD US/japan at youer finger tips for 20 or less a month.

    Xbox DVD/CD?

    360 DVD luanch hardware issues

if theres a Xbox 2 either HD DVD or the winnder of the format war,in a atempt to be the frist some error or glitch will annoying XB2 oweners for 1 year untill they release new hardware to fix it,if they have any forthought create a PC game BWC like the current Xbox BWC sine the XB is a freaking mini PC built by the man himself they should use that a bit more, definately more downloadable content and whole XB2 games as well as 360 and XB games as well ad better media center abiltes this beast dersrves a desent chance at it.
MSis dumb and slow I so see them easily cocking up the next system reelase and while they bring out a new system in 3-4 years the PS3 will be catching a 2nd wind since it had BR built in and is built for the long haul, altho the WII is the ture monster killer, becuse of price and qauilty of games everyone will have one.

In a way I agree, and yes blue ray will prove to be usefull in the long run but there is speculation that sony will give blue ray a "back handed smack" as they may abondon it and you a "physical drive". There is no solid proof to support this since its only speculation....*stops for a while* hey wait a minute PS3 isnt even out yet and Im talking about PS4.....any way Sony will find a way to push it again.

Cant wait till Playstation 26 comes out!

    Peace Out!

i think sony is making a big mistake, i mean why can't the 500$ one play the movies in HD, i think that is such BS....I mean i would get the 600 one if i was 1st in line, my town wil get like 2 600 ones and like 10 500 ones...

The $500 PS3 can play BluRay movies in HD. The component connection can carry 720p or 1080i and ICT will not be implemented for at least a few more years.

Yse the low can butI have a feeling if you palyed the side by side the HDMI would provide a better HD conntion, its ture that the copy protection shceme is not goig to be use yet,but knowing hollywood you never know.

I dont think any console maker is ready to go downlaod content only, not wihtout the US and japan or at the LEAST japan have free boardband.
