I say normalize because that's the only way I can explain it. Upon playback, but just in some parts, this file gets a little fuzzy and looks like it's distorting at times.. I had this problem on an AVI file a long time ago, but I ran it through VirtualDub and it cleaned it up. Unfortunately I can't remember what settings I used. Might AVIdemux also work, or do you have any other suggestions?
I think the tool you use is secondary to actually knowing what it is you want to do. Are you talking about brightness/contrast issues? Or do you mean something else by "normalize" ? In Virtualdub you can use the filter in blend mode, and then with the curve editor, have it apply only to certain segments that need it.
Sorry I guess I did not make things clear. Basically the file plays just fine from stop to start in WMP, it's only when I use the slider on WMP to jump ahead to check the quality of the whole file, that it distorts. It's like the rest of the video has not caught up with what was there before or something. After a few seconds though or when the scene changes everything gets back to normal. Here's an Image Shack screenshot of it. Open the file in Virtualdub and locate one of the problem area's. Step forward frame by frame and see if you can recreate the problem. A second thing to try, set audio and video to "direct stream copy" then File/save as avi (to save to a new avi) and see if the new one does the same thing. If it still has a problem, use virtualdub to reencode it. Set audio to "direct stream copy" and video to "fast recompress" Set video/compression and select xvid. Hit configure/load defaults. OK out, File/Save as avi
Well I always like to keep my threads updated, especially if I found a solution. I re-size all of my AVI's before I burn them to DVD anyway, so I thought, even with this little glitch I need to see what will happen when I re-size this file. So I just used the drop-down in Video and selected MPEG 4 Xvid, picked a size and started. When I was finished, there was no trace of distortion when I used the slider to check my video. Don't know the reason it worked but I'm not complaining. Thanks as always for your assistance!
