Hi, I am very new here and in this field.

What I need to know is; I have a video of few meetings in a CD. How can I edit it in MOVIEMAKER (or any other simple video editing software) to reduce the time (to take only important parts)?

This CD has few folders like CDI, EXT, CVD, MPEGAV; and the file that runs the video is AVSEQ01.DAT. How can I convert this file into wmv or divx, etc. to edit?

A detailed reply or link is highly appreciated.

    Thank you.

That's a VCD you have there and the video is in MPEG-1 format. You don't need to convert it, and just about every computer supports MPEG-1. You should be able to import this directly into Moviemaker although that product is very slow and cumbersome. If you have a copy of Nero, open up NeroVision. I suspect you'd want to make another, editing VCD, so click Make CD, then Video CD, add Video Files... and import your video. Click Edit Movie... then click the scissors underneath the viewscreen and play with the Mark-In/Mark-Out sliders. When you are done, keep hitting Next as necessary to make up your menus and burn.

VirtualDub (freeware) and Womble MPEG Video Wizard (payware) are other editing tools. VirtualDub is pretty well-supported too.

    Hi

Thank you very much for the tips.

I'll try the new free software.

    Bless you.
