Defiantly build your own it saves money and you can tailor make it to your needs, what are you looking to do with the setup I.E. gaming, video encoding etc.

I find that just by searching myself, I can find excellent deals on different parts. For example, I have a 250 Gig Seagate(OEM) HDD which I bought for 130 dollars. Supposed to be 80 but I'm still waiting for rebate.

Are you planning on overclocking to squeeze some extra juice out of your system? If so you will have no choice but to build your own, OR have it built by a site like Monarchcomputer.com
If you order a PC from HP or Dell, it's highly unlikely that you will be able to overclock. Hope this helps

I would recommend buying a new computer from Dell. Visit http://www.techbargains.com/dellcoupons.cfm for coupons. They have the best deals anywhere on the net with their coupons. As for overclocking, I assume you don't know much about it based on your question but if you do get a Dell you won't be able to do so.

I got a Dimension XPS Generation 4 with the following specs 6 months ago. (Prices have gone down considerably, yet it remains a good deal)

    Pentium 4 3.40GHZ 1MB Cache 800MHZ FSB
    Intel 925 Motherboard
    1 GIG DDR2 @ 533MHZ
    160GB SATA HD
    FLOPPY DRIVE
    SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY 2
    NVIDIA G-FORCE 6800 256MB
    16X DVD-ROM
    16x DVD-/+RW Double Layer

For $1120 with free shipping and 7% Tax included.

I don't know many people here who would recommend buying Dell, you are very limited with parts that you can fit & driver support. You should build your own, again, what are you going to use the PC for?

Computer makeover? Are you in Ricky Lake World, or what?

    LOL

I would recommend you build your own or get one configured for your needs from a company like Monarch computer or ABS. Custom building is always better than somebody's cheap crappy parts!!!! No, I'm not mentioning any of these proprietary companys, you all know who you are!!!LOL

    www.mwave.com
    www.jr.com

nVidia is better in the drivers aspect than ATi. Also you have to make a lot of decisions first. Don't buy anything yet. Do you want Intel or AMD processor? AMD is best for gaming fyi.

OK Looks good except for maybe the motherboard...haven't had too much experience with that one, but as long as you're not planning on OCing that one will do.

I would look at getting a SATA HDD. They aid in a better performance of your system.

I would have gone with a Pioneer burner, the new 110 is already out. I would prefer that to the Sony, just my 2 cents.....
Also Nvidia do better driver support than ATi, so I would think about an Nvidia card..
