Nero supplies a good log, but this happens with other encoding and burning apps. Just as an opener, I'll describe what's happening. The problem is the encoding or copying process goes to the end and during the finalizing process the burn fails. The Nero Burning ROM fails during a copy and Recode fails during the finalizing as well. CopyToDVD3, Shrink with Decrypter, DVD-RB/CCE with Decrypter, and InterVideo DVDCopy 4 are just some of the others that fail during the finalizing stage. Needless to say, I have a great coaster collection by now. The drive is a Memorex Dual Format burner made by Pioneer. Interesting is the fact that I can still record to +RW media. I've messed up 8X +R Sony (YUDEN T02) from 2 different spindles, so I doubt a media problem. I've used them in the past with excellent success. So that part of the firmware doesn't appear to be suspect. I was doing some software upgrades and when I came back to do a burn, this failure started happening. I've since formatted the C: partition and reinstalled XP SP2 just in case. Everything works except no recording to the +R media, the disc burns and won't finalize. The disc reads as a blank without finalizing but a burn is present. I didn't see anything wrong in the log, except the 2 from above. DVD-Copy on the fly is probably ok, but the "KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR" seems to be giving your burner some trouble reading and or writing on the media. Looks like the laser is having a hard time. However, I believe YUDEN000T02 is a top notch media. alkohol I noticed the hardware error as well. It's just strange how the burner would work. I could still record RWs and it would burn the R discs, but wouldn't finalize them. As much as I hated to admit it, it was time for a new drive. New drive, problem solved.
