How to use Nero to make data DVDs, using DVD+R DL discs?
All I want to do is backup up some data.
Heck, it doesn't even have to be Nero. I am willing to use ANY software that knows how to make good DL burns of DATA discs.

I already know how to use DVD Decrypter to burn DL discs from ISO images. My burner and media work fine for that.

But, most of the time, my data burns fail, usually within 30 seconds.

I cannot get consistent results. Once in awhile it makes a good backup. Most of the time, the write fails less than 30 seconds after it starts. I think soon I will be able to build a house from all the $3/apiece Verbatim coasters I am creating with Nero.

I had experts online ask me to (1) increase RAM, so I did, from 512MB to 1.5GB (2) to upgrade Nero. So I did, from 6.3 to 6.6.0.18 (3) to turn on DMA, so I ran DVD Fab and it said it did so (4) to run Roxizap to get rid of old Roxio elements, so I did. (5) to use only Verbatim DVD+R discs, so I got 3 boxes of them.
I even took the step of islolating my Firewire devices on seperate buses.

Well, I'm still creating coasters like candy, and I'm exhausted. It is mind-boggling why it is so hard to consistently burn good DL discs.

Today I needed to backup around 7GB of data files to a DVD+R DL, using Nero 6.6 and also Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. And it failed again.

Is anyone able to give me a clue why it failed below?
Also, people have asked me to change the DMA from off to on. I did so using DVD Fab, but still some of them show as off. I should point out that 2 of those drives are SCSI so they don’t seem to have a setting for changing this.

Here is the Nero log for most recent fail:

    DMA is still off...

To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager
    1. Open Device Manager
    2. Double-click IDE ATA//ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels.
    3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which your burner is connected and select Properties. Now click the Advanced Settings tab.
    4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if available if the current setting says, "PIO Only."
If the drop-down box already says, "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the user must "toggle" the settings. That is, change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click "OK".Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to "DMA if available".

You could just use Folder2ISO, to create your ISO of any file and then burn with DVDD.

Normally, this means your burner doesn't like your discs.

Did you flash your firmware? I think have the wrong firmware!

    Go here...

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

You will see that your Drive is the SONY DVD RW DRU-810A. It takes version 1.0d firmware.

You have 2.0d installed. It is for the Sony DRU-810UL.

    I would try the 1.0d....
