I have been recording DVD's for over a year now without any problems. I decided to try and start recording DUAL LAYER DVD's... I bought the Pioneer DVR-111D recorder and got some Ridata double layer +R media. Do I need to do something extra in Nero in order to record 8.5 GB? right now, it doe snot recognize the fact that the media is dual layer... it actually tells me it has like ~500MB capability... any ideas what is going on? I could use any help...
You may need to update some things, like Nero or the Burner firmware. Can you select DVD-9 when you burn.?. If you installed the drive after Nero, it may not see it yet. You might try posting a NeroHistory.xxx file in your Core directory and see if anyone notices anything different. Make sure to edit out your serial number, which may be is several places, and if you can, only post the last couple of burn attempts. The last ones are the newest and you can tell where they start and stop if you look at the file.
Hi jackal99 Which app in Nero are you using like Burning Rom, Vision etc? How about the version of 6 - which one are you using? You'll need to switch the target size to dvd9 in Nero. Check you firmware too and make sure that is up to date. The latest for your drive is 1.23 http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2220 You can find the version # in Nero ToolKit>InfoTool>drive tab. There's a field there that will have the firmware version #.
jackal99, I looked for the approved d/l blank media on Pioneer's site but they must have removed it. I do not remember Ridata being on the list. I can guarantee you Verbatim is on the list. If it was me then I would carry the Ridata's back and get Verbatim. I have a Pioneer on one of the systems at home and I have never had a problem w/ the Verbatim's. I also would not use Nero to do a d/l DVD as it has problem finding the layer break flag. Use DVDDecrypter( properly set up like Slysoft said to) along w/ AnyDVD and rip the DVD in iso mode and then use DVDD or Imgburn to burn the DVD to D/L. I have done close to 90 and never had a failure yet. Nero 7 is supposed to have some improvements over Nero 6 but it is still too buggy for me
I mannaged to do this task (ripping AND burning) with an old version of DVD decrypter that I have (DVDfab bought them out, no?) How do I change the target size in Nero? I will look for ImgBurn...
DVDFab is by a different developer - Fengtao. DVD Decrypter is by Lightning UK!. (Macrovision put an end DVD Decrypter) ImgBurn is his updated burn prog. Here's link to ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ In Nero here's a pic for Burning Rom - for most apps in Nero look in the bottom right hand corner to change to DVD9:
very strange.. my Nero does not give that option in the corner... is there a way to reach it through some settings?
Hmmm make sure DVD is picked either in Smart Start or Burning Rom. Is that the app you're trying to use in Nero? How about your version # of Nero?
jackal99 , You can update to the version below but go no higher as the higher version is buggy. Are you using an OEM version(Came w/ burner or computer) or a version that was purchased in a store? Nero version 6.6.0.18 updates: Package 1 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe
If it was an OEM package 2 may not give you Vision & Recode. You should be good with package 1. Let's us know how it turns out!
Nero is giving me more problems... is there some software out there (preferably free) that can do everything?... from an original DVD (dual layer) I want to backup to the burning on a blank dual layer DVD media?
What kind of problems is Nero giving you? We may be able to sort them out for you. For free - dvd decrypter would be the route like you've used - to rip and burn dual layer. Or you can rip w/ DVD Decrypter then burn w/ ImgBurn. Since DVD Decrypter can't handle some of the newer stuff - AnyDVD running in the background with a few settings changes would handle it.
@jackal99 I would take Car.Mike and Binkie's suggestion of ripping with DVD Decrypter in ISO read mode and burning the MDS file with DVD Decrypter in ISO write mode.
Glad to hear things worked out - great program!! Let us know if we can help you on your Nero problem too
