can anyone make heads or tails of why my burner won't burn anything? I have posted the log file below. My memorex true 8xn is firmware updated. Any help will be appreciated. log file below....It goes to 100% but can't seem to write the lead out or whatever. No DVD's, no CD's....nothing.... I can see that data is burned...but it fails at the end.....Before everyone points to the media being the culprit, I wanna let you know that I have burned these HP CDR's with this burner many times and had no problems. I seem to remember updating my chipset drivers and then this happened.

    Hello.

This could be either media or hardware related.

I didn't see the media code as I did a quick scan. Have you used this CD media before successfully? You might try a different brand.

Your burning a multisession disk. Is that what you intended?

Nero 6.6.1.4 isn't a particularly good version imo. I'd uninstall it and then run the Nero 6 Clean Tool:

    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html

Then download and install version 6.6.0.18:

    Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
    Package 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Nero isn't showing DMA (direct memory access) as being on for your IDE devices. I suspect that is because your IDE adapter may not be reporting correctly but I can't say for sure. You might try checking your adapter settings with the following guide link below. If you have an accelerator installed, you may not be able to check.

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf

Let us know what you do and how it works out.

I tried your suggestions and didn't come up with anything positive. My setup has SATA controllers and a parallel ata controller, both of which have DMA enabled, but I tried reinstalling them anyway prior to testing. It was my intention to add some songs to the cd later, hence the multi-session disc. I tried shutting off the multi-session to eliminate that as the culprit. I got the exact same result. I am posting the log on this specific error below, along with something that seemed strange to me. I took this screenshot to note that the buffer in the "action" section, when writing the lead in and lead out, never moves. After the initial buffer winds down to close out the cd, it never moves again:

Whether it's a media problem or a hardware communication problem, I don't know. The only thing I can suggest is to try a different brand of media. You're using media from a low quality supplier right now. To the best of my knowledge there aren't any additional firmware updates for this particular burner. Can you burn DVDs?

I switched to a memorex brand of cd, but I am getting the exact same result. I won't bother posting the log file, unless someone thinks I should. Let me know if anyone can see what the problem is.

    My section looks like this:

    ata controllers

and my nero infotool looks like this:

    infotool

My burner is set to this:

    burner settings

    And has these possible settings:

    possible

Any ideas on what should make it work? Kinda sick of making coasters :( All of my HD's are running SATA 150 and my old burner is a PATA 33. everything looks like the DMA is turned on. I'm not sure what to change.

@ty18769, In order for your "pics" to appear you need to close the bracket prior to the URL [ ]

Have you tried using WinXP or any other app other than Nero to burn a CD?

Have you tried burning a DVD?

You might also try a hard reset by opening your system and unplugging both the data and power cables from the burner. Then restart the system a couple of times and then recable.

As I mentioned before, fixation errors can be due to a burner failure or media, with media being the most common cause. You don't seem to run into problems until the end when the TOC is being updated so it seems more likely to be media related but it could be a problem with the laser repositioning and getting the media back up to speed.

Try to find another system and install your burner there for testing. If it doesn't work in another system, the burner is likely bad. If it does work, we'll search for problems on your system causing the fault.

I tried burning a regular music cd with windows media player 10 and had the same result. It would burn the entire cd and get to the end and fail. If everyone thinks it's the DMA, then I would like some suggestions on different settings that I might try. I think it all happened when I updated my chipset drivers, which would make sense, but I have tried uninstalling it and having it rerecognize it, to no avail. Any help is appreciated.

    FIXED

I got a positive result by changing my Nvidia Nforce 4 Parallel ATA Controller DMA settings. It was previously set to Ultra DMA 2 - Ultra33. I instead set it to Multi-word DMA 2. This fixed the problem immediately. Thanks for the suggestions and all the help. I would have been stuck if someone didn't mention the DMA settings.
