After some intital problems getting anything to burn succesfully, once I got some info from the NERO folks I downloaded some patches and burned my first DVD on some VERBATIM DVD+R. Now when I try to go and burn the SAME movie (I saved in NERO) to a DVD+RW or FUJI DVD+RW - I get a message saying the DISC IS NOT RECOGNIZED and I cannot proceed further? However if I use this same disc to do a straight DVD burn (not the +VR function) it works? What should I be doing? THANKS - from a NEWBIE I am on WINDOWS XP DVD: DVDRW IDE 1008 IOMAGIC DRIVE CD: LITEON LTR-40125s
Just guessing VR(video recorder?)disc. Why don't you just use Nero's disc copy? Also what exactly are you burning?
HTanks - The +VR function allows you to burn a disc and then if you want to go in and change menus or add some items you can without reburning and transcoding everything I am burning a series of .wmv files from Photostory to put on one DSVD as an end to end "movie" I have tried Memorex and FUJI +RW disks - which will burn fine if I don't want to burn using the +VR capability. If I use the same disks to start a +VR burn I get this exact message from NERO: The disc in the recorder is not a valid DVD +VR disc ???? Thanks for checking in on this!
I tried reformatting the disc using the NERO utility and then reusing it. I also tried a new disc as well. Seem to get the same message each time. I htink I will go to the NERO website today and see if there have been any new patches posted in the last several weeks ( I downloaded a bunch of updates the last week of JUne which fixed some other problems). I also sent the NERO people a support request - we'll see what I get from them. This seems to be a stumper for everyone I talk to - if the NERO folks give me an answer I will post it here and let you know! In the meantime, if anyone gets a genius burp on this problem let me know. P.S. the +VR function does sound good - - if it can work...which still is the question of the moment for me.... I will continue to search - the truth is out there.......
There seems to be some confusion here, or at least I am a little confused. The +VR standard is for Capturing Video and recording directly to the DVD Recorder. So no data is stored first to the Hard drive. You can then go back with programs such as NeroVision and create your Menus and Chapter points on the +VR disc, without first needing to copy the contents to your Hard Drive, editing, and burning back to DVD. Instead, it simply modifies the +VR DVD directly. If you ever wish to add to the +VR media, you must choose the option to 'Make or Modify DVD+VR' option in the Nero StartSmart. Or if you wish to capture more video to DVD+VR you choose the 'Record Directly to Disc' from Nero StartSmart. You will get an error message if you try to add to a DVD+VR by choosing 'Make Your Own DVD-Video' option in Nero StartSmart, or Make DVD from within NeroVision itself, as this is for standard DVD Creation. The fact that you indicate you are using WMV files, indicate to me that you are using the wrong option for creating a DVD. If you are wishing to add WMV files to an existing +VR disc, then I can understand, but if you are starting off with WMV files and a blank DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, or DVD-RW disc, then you need to choose the 'Make Your Own DVD-Video' option in Nero StartSmart, or Make DVD in NeroVision Express. P.S. +VR creation only works with DVD+R or DVD+RW media, it will not work with DVD-R or DVD-RW media. NeroVision does support importing -VR disc content, but will not capture directly to -VR with the current version. They indicate that a future FREE release of NeroVision will support creating -VR discs. Regards, Craig
OK - to help clear up some of the confusion.... I think I got that - so are you saying you CANNOT create the editable disc with this option? That you create a editable disc using the standard feature and only use the +VR function to edit? Maybe the mistake I was making was trying to use the +VR function to create the burned DVD so I could go abck and modify it later if I wanted to? Yes I was starting off with .WMV files, which I though NERO would onvert as part of its first steps before burning, in either function step? Is that an incorrect assumption? So I have already been successful in creating a DVD from .WMV using NERO. So if what you say I need to do is simply now to take that disc and put it in and select the +VR function and I should be able to modify it? I have been using Memorex and FUJI DVD+RW sucessfully using NERO when I do a straight burn. I am encountering trouble when I try to use the discs after intiating the +VR function to burn a new disc. After I insert my blank DVD+RW into the drive, Nero starts checking the drive "for an importable disc.." (whatever the heck that is...) and then comes back with a mesasge that "the disc in the recorder in not a valid DVD +VR disc"....? Now the interesting part comes, if I have loaded the disc already into the drive prior to starting the +VR function itself - -it doesn't go through and ceck for an "...importable disc...", but allows me to go through the whole setup process, but then gets hung up for way too long in the initial steps of preparing the data for transcoding - something that should take a few minutes for 45 minutes worth of DVD video hangs for over 15 min - -that is even before the expected 3 hours to actually transcode and burn. I sensed that was wrong and aborted, as when I used the basic burn function that same step only took about 2 minutes for the same files. ????? Still looking for answers.....

Hi Xenonian, Sorry, I guess I did not explain it properly. Let me give you some scenario's of what will work with +VR. Scenario #1: You could launch NeroVision Express, go to Make DVD and select the option for DVD-Video (+VR). Now you can select WMV or other source video files and add them, edit them, create chapters, and create menus. And once that is all done, burn it to a DVD+R or DVD+RW media. Now you have created a DVD+VR disc. With the DVD+VR disc you just created, you can then go back into NeroVision Express and again select the Make DVD option and select DVD-Video (+VR) option again. NeroVision will automatically import the +VR content on the disc you created. Now, the imported +VR content you can only modify by creating chapters, and changing the Menu. However, you can add more video files, and those video files you add you can edit, as they have not yet been written to the DVD. This is a working scenario. Scenario #2: (This is what I thought you were doing, and it can not be done.) Launch NeroVision Express, select Make DVD and the option for DVD-Video. Add your video content, edit the content, add chapters, create menus, etc and burn to DVD+R or DVD+RW. Now you have a Normal DVD-Video. With the DVD-Video you just created still in the DVD Recorder, launch NeroVision Express, select Make DVD and select the optoin for DVD-Video (+VR). Now you will get an error message, as the DVD you created is not DVD+VR and so can not be modifed. I hope I did a better job of explaining it now. Sorry for any confusion I caused. Regards, Craig
Craig: Thanks for sticking with me on this.... I defintely tried Scenario 2 (you were right) and got the error messages..... I am going to try again - but I thought I did then try steps you noted in Scenario 1. What happens, is that when I go to start with a new blank disc after choosing the +VR function - - I get that message that the disc in the recorder is not a valid +VR disc. I will try this (again) tonight following your steps more closely (though it does sound like what I did ) and let you know if I got it to work.... Again...thanks ... this is LOL...they should give out grad degrees in this stuff....then I could add it to the other pigskins on my wall......
If you are following the Scenario #1 process, try without any media in the Recorder till you come to the burn process. Since the DVD is blank, it should report that the disc in the drive is not +VR, as it's not yet. I just did a quick test to confirm its working, and I had no trouble following Scenario#1, but I did not put a DVD in the drive till I was ready to burn. Regards, Craig
Craig Thanks will do tonight (again) One thing, when I tried that little trick the last time, the first step (preparing the files for transcoding) seemed to take FOREVER compared to when I would do a straight MAKE DVD ( 15 min and counting vs 2 min for same set of files for a straight burn) So I aborted the process.... BTW - I am quite satisfied with NERO, just this lttle glitch with +VR function thus far - after much scanning the forums and trying ROXIO and others....after I tried the free trial I WAS HOOKED - I am sure as I stretch my uses of it I will face new user challenges....but for now, when I created my firsts DVD for a family event (menus and all) EVERYONE wanted to know what I used.....(HMMM should I tell them...<grin> like I said before, once you learn this stuff, people think you are some sort of genius....LOL)
