Dear Forum.... I thought i was quite a capable cd/dvd burner and have never had any problems like this before.....But for some reason the Nero 6 SE software keeps failing my dvd's. The cds burn perfectly but the Dvds keep failing and i have starting to run out of hair to pull out, as i have wasted around 10 blank dvd's tring to burn 1 simple compilation... All im trying to do is put some home videos in .avi format onto a 4.7Gb dvd. I have been doing the simulations and determineing the maximum speed and nothing works... The cd gets to about 25 to 50 complete and says "burn process failed..." I have enclosed the error log. If anyone would like to suggest a reason for this thing screwing up all the time..It would be very much appreciated.. (p.s. The media manufacturers of the dvd's i have used were from 3 different manufacturers, and i have used them all succsfully before. So i have ruled out cheapy media.) ______________________________________________________________________ Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.71 (0002), size=45056 bytes, created 17/07/2002 02:20:56 ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 26/10/2004 18:35:34 Nero Version: 6.6.0.16 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 16b Recorder: <PIONEER DVD RW DVR-107D>Version: 1.05 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.16 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2000kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <IDE DVD-ROM 16X >Version: 7.92 - HA 0 TA 1 - 6.6.0.16 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 0 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : ST3200021A atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : IDE DVD-ROM 16X atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : PIONEER DVD RW DVR-107D atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : SAMSUNG SP1604N atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === IDE DVD-ROM 16X G: CDRom0 PIONEER DVD RW DVR-107D H: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 511MB (523756kB) Free physical memory: 181MB (186000kB) Memory in use : 64 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 18.8.2005 ISO compilation 13:19:17 #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6356 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : TRUE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 2 (Max. of 31 chars) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 13:19:17 #2 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 13:19:17 #3 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer PIONEER DVD RW DVR-107D running 13:19:17 #4 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 13:19:18 #5 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 13:19:18 #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 2241279 (498:03.54, 4377MB) 13:19:18 #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 282 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 13:19:18 #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: PIONEER DVD RW DVR-107D, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: Prodis - cF01 Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193 13:19:18 #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 448 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 13:19:18 #10 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 838 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 2241280 (2241280) = #2241280/498:3.55 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 2241280 blocks [PIONEER DVD RW DVR-107D] -------------------------------------------------------------- 13:19:18 #11 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1051 Prepare recorder [PIONEER DVD RW DVR-107D] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; Your firmware is really old, it is the original firmware. The current version is 1.21 so you are really out of date, no wonder your burner cannot read any of the newer media. Here is site for update http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=25
Thank you for the promt reply. Could i ask you a couple of questions though. 1. What is firmware ? 2. The update utility keeps saying "avaliable target is not found" Again, thank you for the help...
Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. Every company has its own methods to allow you to do a firmware upgrade. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. Here is the pioneer site, try there for your update if you are having a problem, scrool down and you will see your drive. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/article/0,,2076_4273_128163990,00.html
Cheers Arniebear..... After you said about the firmware i delved into cyberoblivion to find out more about it and managed to get it sorted...i couldnt get the 1.21 you suggested "coz it kept saying source not found" but i found the 1.20 update at the computer manufacturers website and this has sorted the problem...Thank you arniebear for saving me from knackering even more disks..... Never thought it would be such a simple problem...Seems quite complicated at first but proved to be quite simple....Its amazing just how much stuff there is out there riddled with jargon...There should be a few sites out there who accomodate people who havent got a masters degree in computer studies eh... Thanks again .
You are welcome, glad everything is working for you and could be fixed by a simple update. Happy burning
