    Dear Forum....
I thought i was quite a capable cd/dvd burner and have never had any problems like this before.....But for some reason the Nero 6 SE software keeps failing my dvd's. The cds burn perfectly but the Dvds keep failing and i have starting to run out of hair to pull out, as i have wasted around 10 blank dvd's tring to burn 1 simple compilation... All im trying to do is put some home videos in .avi format onto a 4.7Gb dvd. I have been doing the simulations and determineing the maximum speed and nothing works... The cd gets to about 25 to 50 complete and says "burn process failed..." I have enclosed the error log. If anyone would like to suggest a reason for this thing screwing up all the time..It would be very much appreciated..

(p.s. The media manufacturers of the dvd's i have used were from 3 different manufacturers, and i have used them all succsfully before. So i have ruled out cheapy media.)

Your firmware is really old, it is the original firmware. The current version is 1.21 so you are really out of date, no wonder your burner cannot read any of the newer media. Here is site for update

Thank you for the promt reply. Could i ask you a couple of questions though.

    1. What is firmware ?

    2. The update utility keeps saying "avaliable target is not found"

Again, thank you for the help...

Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. Every company has its own methods to allow you to do a firmware upgrade. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades.

Here is the pioneer site, try there for your update if you are having a problem, scrool down and you will see your drive.

    Cheers Arniebear.....

After you said about the firmware i delved into cyberoblivion to find out more about it and managed to get it sorted...i couldnt get the 1.21 you suggested "coz it kept saying source not found" but i found the 1.20 update at the computer manufacturers website and this has sorted the problem...Thank you arniebear for saving me from knackering even more disks.....

Never thought it would be such a simple problem...Seems quite complicated at first but proved to be quite simple....Its amazing just how much stuff there is out there riddled with jargon...There should be a few sites out there who accomodate people who havent got a masters degree in computer studies eh...

    Thanks again . :)

You are welcome, glad everything is working for you and could be fixed by a simple update. Happy burning :)
