I have Win XP Pro SP1 on an AMD 2.5G, 1G ram,250G sataHD w/180free. The error message is quote The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in Safe Mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.quote No error codes. Went to Microsoft and downloaded the latest installer and rebooted. I have no problems getting updates from Microsoft or installing PhotoShop from the Nero 7Ultra CD. Same results even if I used the Option 2 download from Nero. Also did the General clean program. The box says it works with Win 98/98se/ME,Win2000SP4 or later, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server. Tech support says it works ONLY with Win XP Service Pack 2. I can't take it back to the store I bought it because they don't take back open software. Nero won't refund my money. I don't want SP2 because it slows things down. (Seen it on friends machines similar to mine). Also Nero Tech support other brilliant idea, besides install SP2, was to do a clean install of XP. Any other ideas on how to install this program?

You are saying that Nero 7 only works on SP2?

If that's true and the box doesn't say it anywhere, you can contest the CC charge of the purchase if the store refuses to let you return it. Tell the store you will do that and they might give you a refund without you contesting the charge since they lose money (time)fighting with the CC company regardless.

That's only if you used a CC to buy Nero, of course.

I am not saying that Nero 7 Ultra works only with Windows XP SP2, Perry, Tech support at Nero is. And the box says Windows XP with no mention of SP1 or SP2. And my loss, I paid cash.
Apparently something more than Windows Installer is needed. I have all other updates from Microsoft.
