    Hi All,

I have just installed the new Nero version 7.5.7.0.

Although, some of the old problems have disappeared, ProductSetup is still unable to "Update Now' and "Check for Updates, and Nero Home is a royal PIA. Is this because this service is not yet available from Nero AG?

So far, I have removed NeroScout which I do not use, and I have stopped the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service from my system.

Additionally, I notice that after a successful burn of some data using Nero Express, I am unable to see it on the CD when I go to Start --> My Computer --> DVD/CD Drive. The CD that I am using is a CD-R from Imation and the drive is a Matshita DVD/CD combo II drive which I use in my IBM ThinkPad T42 laptop. Please advice.

    Cheers and best regards,
    Ranjit

My Product Update seems to be running OK, although I do not show any updates available. Check your version on the update page of 1.5.25.0 to see if it is current.

How, may I ask, did you remove Nero Scout? It seems to be embedded, and although I do not have it enabled, it is still there. I am running this in Vista, so there may be a difference.

    Hi Saltgrass,

    Thank you for your message.

I have the same version of Nero ProductSetup (1.5.25.0) like you.

I am running Microsoft Windows XP Pro, and I use the new IE 7.0 browser. I feel that ProductSetup is not working as it should in my system is because of the OS (Vista vs. XP Pro, and because Nero 7.5.7.0 is currently optimized for Vista. Also, it may be because the ProductSetup service is not available from Nero AG at this time. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I have only disabled Nero Scout as opposed to completly removing the software.

    Cheers and best regards,
    Ranjit

I just ran the update on my XP box and it checked for updates fine. Zone Alarm did give me an alert for "SetupX.exe" was trying to run so I had to allow for that.

I am running IE7 Beta 2 on this machine. Perhaps something in IE7 is blocking the connection. Other than that possibility, I don't know.

If you have used the clean tools for version 6 and 7 and have rebooted prior to reinstalling Nero 7 it should work unless something else is interferring. Or you have something left over from a previous install in the path. The last 2 versions of Nero 7 are the only ones I have been able to get the Product setup to work at all. And I did use it to update a previous version, so it is working.

And I know nothing about the effects of stopping the COM service.

    Hi Saltgrass,

    Thank you for your message.

Like I said, I only diabled NeroScout like you did and did not completely remove the program. I hope that this helps.

I am still not able to "Update Now' and "Check for Updates" in ProductSetup. I have turned off ZA and NAV and still the same situation. That's wierd!

Could you let me know (with screenshots, if possible) what happens when you click these buttons? In my case, I always get a message box to say that ProductSetup was unable to connect to the internet when the internet is active and working well.

    Cheers and best regards,
    Ranjit

Well, I don't have any screen captures, or at least I can't get them in here, but the first message I get after clicking "Check for updates" is "Nero is checking for updates". When I click OK another window appears with a progress bar and finally, one comes up saying no updates are available.

Sorry, but I can't help if you have an internet access problem. Make sure there is nothing flashing at you that is asking for access. But whenever I have strange problems with some of the utilities, I normally assume it is some type of install situation.

    Hi Saltgrass,

    Thank you for your message.

My ProductSetup is still the same. When I click the "check for updates", I see a dialog box that says tha Nero ProductSetup is checking for Nero products update. When I click the OK button, I see the progress bar momentarily, and then I get this dialog box to say that Nero ProductSetup is unable to connect to the Internet. It's wierd! Your setup seems to be the same as mine, and it is strange that your ProductSetup works and mine doesn't.

Btw, did you turn off your firewall and antivirus programs? Also, have you disabled Nero Sout in your system? Please let me know.

    Chers and best regards,
    Ranjit

Nero Scout is disabled--My anti-virus and firewall are still in place. I don't use the Windows firewall.

Yours still sounds like some type of internet connection problem. I don't know of a place in Nero to configure that, so I must assume your normal connection is used. If you are behind some type of firewall or proxy server or something of that sort, it might also effect the connection.

I am not that much of an internet expert, but it might be related to going to an FTP site. I know some of the sites are that type so I will continue to check and try to find out how to test your system. If you know of an ftp site, you can enter it in IE and see if you can go there.

Try these, just enter them in the address bar in IE. You might check IE to see their help on FTP

    @ Saltgrass
In order to remove Nero Scout in Vista:
You must run the following with your computer in safe mode.
    Type exactly as below:

    regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll"

    Hi Saltgrass,

    Thank you for your message.

I have tried Nero ProductSetup with ZA Pro and NAV enabled and without these programs running, and still I have the same situation. My FTP work fine. I was able to FTP to both the websites.

It is something else that is blocking Internet access. Strangely, my Internet is active and working well. Let me know if you have more information.

    Cheers and best regards,
    Ranjit

I had the same problem with Nero Update - it could not connect to the internet. I went to open Windows Firewall to see if there was a problem. Before Windows Firewall opened, I got a message that ICS needed to be enabled. I clicked OK, ICS started and then Nero Update worked. I went back into the services control panel, shutdown firewall/ics, and then Nero Update stopped working again.
