I heard awful things about Nero 7 for the last 2 years so I stayed away from it and kept Nero 6.6.0.14. I'm wondering now if its time to upgrade since burning DVD-Video Files with Nero for DL backups, I only have a 1 in 3 chance of having it come out playable. I know that it is better to use ImgBurn and do a iso with proper layer break info but sometimes I accidentally rip to Video Files and need a solution to burn to DL. ImgBurn always creates coasters when trying to burn DL Video Files. I was wondering if the latest Nero 7 can handle burning DL Video Files and has not screwed up regular DVD-5 burning. Thanks.
Hey VJbob Yes Nero 7 is much better now. I've used it a several times for dual layer burns and no failures. Very slight pause when the player hits the layer break but may just be the player - never checked them in the pc to see. You can use the build mode in ImgBurn to burn the files if you didn't create an iso. When you say 1 in 3 chance of playing - what media are you using? Burn Speed? Players are picky esp w/ dual layer. If your burner can booktype - booktype +R DL to DVD-Rom to increase compatability. Burners firmware up to date?
I have tried about 3 times to create a DL with ImgBurn from DVD-Files and none ever played so I gave up on rebuilding with ImgBurn. As for media, I have not had playback problems with Verbatim a 4x but most problems with Ritek at 2.4x. Some refuse to play after the layer break when built from DVD-files. My Pioneer 111 does not have a booktype setting so I guess it does it automatically. What version Nero is the one you are using? I updated my Nero 6.6.0.14 one time and the upgrade may be have had some DL issues.
The Pioneer I think only booktypes +R DL or it's the NEC drives I'm confusing it with. For dual layer I only use Verbatim - stick with those. Only ones I've used for dual layer without a problem. I use Nero 7.5.0.9.a - from what I understand Nero improved dual layer burning with 7.
great. I found out my firmware is 1.23 and they now have 1.29 but I'm worried about upgrading my firmware and Nero at the same time because I won't know which was the culprit for my problems. I'm guessing upgrade to Nero first, then consider firmware upgrades.
I'd probably do both updates. If you still have some of the Riteks left the firmware may help the write strategy with them. Ritek is a newer manufacturer of dual layer so the firmware may just help.
