I have been trying to burn Chicken Little for a day now and have many coasters to show for it. I have an HP dvd740b burner (latest firmware) and Nero 7 Ultra (also, updated to latest version). This is a new computer I just built and I hav only burned a few dvds on it so far but now I'm stuck. I've got Shrink 3.2 and I started the whole pocess with pgcedit using the pluggin PSL2 (ARccOS)- Wizard Mode. This removes all the junk and sends it to Shrink. Everything goes fine until the burn process and during which I get the following error log. Please advise Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 11/2/2004 12:54:32 PM NT-SPTI used Nero API version: 7.0.8.2 Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 Installed in: C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\ Application: ahead\Nero - Burning Rom Internal Version: 7, 0, 8, 2 Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 740b> Version: HJ24 - HA 1 TA 1 - 7.0.8.2 Adapter driver: <IDE> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ? === Scsi-Device-Map === CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615 nvata Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : HP DVD Writer 740b nvata Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off DiskPeripheral : WDC WD2000JS-98MHB0 nvata Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off DiskPeripheral : WDC WD2000JS-98MHB0 nvata Port 2 ID 2 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615 E: CDRom0 HP DVD Writer 740b F: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 2047MB (2096616kB) Free physical memory: 1421MB (1455304kB) Memory in use : 30 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 17.4.2006 NeroAPI 2:47:09 PM #1 Phase 112 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 278 DVD-Video files reallocation started 2:47:09 PM #2 Phase 114 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 278 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 2:47:09 PM #3 Phase 111 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 278 DVD-Video files sorted 2:47:09 PM #4 Text 0 File ThreadedTransfer.cpp, Line 531 ReadBuffer-Pipe got 262144KB of Memory 2:47:09 PM #5 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 124 Reader running 2:47:09 PM #6 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 113 Writer F: HP DVD Writer 740b running 2:47:09 PM #7 Text 0 File AudioCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 842 DRM: StartDrmRecording(RealRec:1, ImageRec:0, Copies:1) DRM: Beginning burn process. 2:47:09 PM #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File Geniso.cpp, Line 3312 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 2:47:09 PM #9 ISO9660GEN -11 File Geniso.cpp, Line 3312 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 2:47:09 PM #10 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3353 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 2:47:42 PM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 289 Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB) Last address to be written: 2286175 (508:02.25, 4465MB) 2:47:42 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 301 Write in overburning mode: NO 2:47:42 PM #13 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2715 Recorder: HP DVD Writer 740b, Media type: DVD+R Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG, Media Type ID: M01, Product revision number: 0 Disc Application Code: 0, Extended Information Indicators: 7 2:47:42 PM #14 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 473 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= Insert empty disc to write to. These need to be on, go here for link to turn on http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 These are horrible discs, try some Verbatim or Sony that are made in japan This is too fast, slow to 4X
Thanks for your input. First off, I followed your advise and checked out the thread you pointed me to. I was able to completely solve the problem by re-enabling my Ultra DMA 2 mode. I have always had good luck with the 16X TDK media I'm using but I may give Verbatim a shot since so many people recommend them. Again, thank you! Mike
So just how bad are the cmc mag m01? I had been using the Verbatims from Sam's Club but have a Costco membership now and they only carry TDK (cmc mag m01) printable DVDs. I have a spindle of the TDKs and no problems with the first 12 burns (8x on the PC and 1x on the set-top). If I start getting coasters, I'll switch to something else but am worried about life-span (compared to the Verbatims) which won't be noticed until too late. I'm about to copy a bunch of regular Verbatim DVD+Rs and -Rs to printable DVDs and would be pretty mad if I replaced good DVDs with ones that will give me problems down the road.
@RLyon CMC well is bad to say the least. My experience with it along with many others has not been good even with up to date firmware. Discs that burned ended up degrading - no longer able rerip and had playback problems. Just my 2 cents but I won't recopy to Verbatims to the cmc. Verbatims and Taiyo Yuden are made with advanced azo dye which is a superior dye. If you want to copy them to printables than buy some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden printables. This site (US) has great sales on both: http://supermediastore.com
Thanks Binky, Fortunately I bought the TDKs at Costco and they cheerfully refunded the full purchase price when I returned the unused ones from the spindle. Then I ordered several Verbatim printable spindles (50 DVD) on-sale at Newegg on the weekend for $20 each with free shipping. Ended up even cheaper than I'd been buying the Verbatims at Sam's Club when you factor in sales tax. BTW, there are some companies I won't deal with just on principles and Supermedia Store is one of them. My reason is that they rate even crap media as 5 out of 5. So, for example, people who don't know any better would think cmc mag m01 was actually the best there is!
