I purchased an INOI DW560U Media burner which had Nero OEM version 6. The burner is actually a box with a USB interface and a LiteOn DVDRW SOHW-1693S. I upgraded to Nero 7 and reloaded the entire WinXP OS from scratch as it wouldn't recognize the drive. Even after reinstalling WinXP and Nero 7 it still won't recognize the drive. Sometimes it sees the drive but it has a ? as the drive ID. If you open the Safely Remove Hardware window you hear a beep and the USB device being removed and reinstalled over and over. The only reason I purchase Nero 7 was because the Nero6 OEM version would hang when ever I tried to import VBO files into Nero Vision. When I updated the software, Nero Vision would let me import the VBO files but wouldn't recognize my DVD drive. I thought Nero 7 would fix the problem.
First go to the Device Manager. Right click My Computer and select properties. Under the tab called Hardware you will see a button called Device Manager. Find the Universal Serial Bus controllers and select it. Now if it is already selected there may be a ? or ! beside the USB driver. Double click the driver and tell it to update driver. 2) If that doesn't do the trick then make sure that the external drive is disconnected. Now tell Windows to uninstall driver. If your external drive came with a driver then follow the directions to make sure that you installed the driver properly the first time. Let me know if that doesn't solve the problem. I don't think that it is Nero causing the problem, but let me know what version of Nero 7 you have.
As per your instructions I didn't find any devices in Device Manager with a ? or !. The installation instruction on the drive states that it uses the native WinXP USB drivers, so I didn't install any drivers. Device Manager shows the "USB Mass Storage Device" under the USB Controllers. According to the instructions this is what is needed by the device. Under the DVD/CD-Rom I have the Lite ON DVDRW SOHW-1693S USB Device and the Samsung CD-R/RW SW-240B that came with the computer. According to the instructions, this is what I am suppose to be seeing. Windows XP has no problem recognizing the drive. Windows Explorer can read CD and DVDs placed in the drive. Nero has a hard time with the drive. It funny in that the InfoToo seem to be able to get information from it (see below). I purchased the serial number and was told to download the Trial version which was 7.2.3.2. The file name was Nero-7.2.3.2b_eng_no_yt.exe. Again, I appreciate any suggestions you might offer. Drive Information ------------------ Drive : LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1693S Type : DVD±R/RW DL Recorder Firmware Version : KS0A Buffer Size : 2 MB Date : 2005-07-05 Serial Number Vendor Specific : 2005/07/05 15:30 Drive Letter : F:\ Location : 2:0 Mechanism : Tray Read Speed : 8.0 , 6.0 , 4.0 , 2.0 , 1.0 X Write Speed : 4.0 X
Good deal! I wanted to make sure the drivers were in place before we went to the next step. Run the clean tool for both Nero 6 & 7. Nero 6 http://www.nero.com/nero6/us/nero_6_cleantool.html Nero 7 http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero_7_cleantool.html Do not lose your Key for when you reinstall your Nero you will need it.
I ran both Unclean program for Nero 6 & 7 and reboot each time. Do you want me to reinstall Nero 7? Question, why did I need to run the Nero 6 uninstall since I didn't have it on my computer? I had alread rebuilt the Windows OS and only install Nero 7.
You are right about the Nero 6. I just looked at your first post again and realized that you did a fresh install of your O/S. Download The Nero 7 version 7.0.8.2 at: http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845 Let me know it this remedies the problem.
That didn't help either. I've still got the same problems as before. It's a mixed bag of problems. If I try to erase a DVD disk in SmartStart I see a ? instead a F:. If I test the drive it works ok. If I run InfoTool it sees it ok. If I try to create a Data DVD it see the DVD drive but also displays an Image Writer drive. If I select my DVD drive it rejects the selection and selects the Image Writer instead. This was the symptions I was having with Nero 6 when I tried upgrading. Do you think it is a drive compatability problem?
Update your firmware to KSOB from here http://www.liteonit.com/DOWNLOADS/ODD/SOHW-1693S/firmware/DR16KS0B.zip
I can't seem to get the firmware to update. I start the update but nothing happens. I checked task manager and KOSB is still running, even after 20-30 minutes. If I start the program and unplug the USB cable it comes up with a prompt to upgrade the firmware. When I click ok nothing happens. If I unplug the USB cable, it aborts. It recognizes the USB drive when I unplug the cable and plug it back. Looks like the USB interface is interfering.
Looks like it's just not my day. The web-page keeps saying Please wait... contacting download site. The download never start and there's no mirror site that I can find to download from.
Try this site and scroll down to Liteon SOHW-1693S and update to KSOB. I hope this one doesn't give you problems. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=17
I went and took the drive out of the USB interface case and hooked it up to the computer directly. I was able to upgrade the firmware to KOSB. I put everything back as it was but I'm still having problems. It keeps on installing and uninstalling the USB drive and doesn't recognize it---pretty much what it was doing before I loaded the firmware updates. I'm not seeing the ! in front of the drive name. I just doesn't recognize the drive at all now. This is when I try to erase and burn. If I do a drive test it recognizes it.
