About a month ago I rebuilt my PC from scratch, installed windows XP Professional SP2, BitComet, games, antivirus typical PC stuff. Today my 400GB HDD reached my imposed "critical point" of only 50 GB left, most of the space being occupied by games and downoladed stuff from p2p so I went out and bought about 30 DVD's, to clear some space. It's the first time I've installed Nero or attempted to burn something on the new PC. My optical Drive is an ASUS DRW-2014L1T LightScribe DVD+/-R, and as I said it's the first time I use it for actions other than reading CD/DVD's. Installed Nero 7 Essentials, put a DVD in the tray, did all the stuff needed to burn, then after about one second of so-called "activity", Nero froze and started not responding. Since I am used with dodgy buffering since nero 6, which frequently froze up for about 5 minutes before writing, I allocated Nero 15 minutes, which rapidly turned into a hour. Restarted, put in a LightScribe DVD, same thing; Incrementally lowered write speed from 20X to 4X, still nothing; Upgraded the drive's firmware to the latest version, 1.02, and upgraded LightScribe software also to latest version, 1.12.37.1. Tried again, both normal and LightScribe disks(I use TDK standard DVD's and Verbatim LS DVD's), nothing changed. Not even the green "busy" LED lighting up, absolutely nothing. I am currently out of options and pretty pissed off to the limit with this situation X( also because I've had problems with the LG DVD+/-RW on the old PC. I frankly cannot understand why an optical unit 3 times as good as the old one, together with a new PC which is more than twice as fast as my previous one and not filled to the brim with trojans worms and other digital bastards, I still can't write DVD's! Any help would be appreciated, together with some instructions, since I'm not as seasoned (with diagnostics software and all that stuff) as some of the people here are. Thanks in advance. <I thought I should mention it: about 3-4 days ago I did a series of defragmenting on both the HDD's, though I cannot see how that could negatively influence my PC.>
Actually, after about 10 restarts, the optical drive started working, but only with the regular TDK DVD's. The same problem occurs with LightScribe DVD's, nero freezes, green "busy" LED not lighting up as usual, nothing. And I am pretty sure my optical unit is LightScribe, it says it big on the box...
