    Hello,

I have downloaded Nero 7 Premium update (the very last version) and bought my personal serial number. The installation went well and the software appears to work. However, I have a problem with the installation of the help files.

I downloaded the file Nero7_chm_eng from the Nero web site and tried many times to install it without success: when trying to install it in the automatically selected folder (Program files/Nero), the WinRAR self-extracting archive stops me several times saying that some files already exist, and asks me if I want to keep them or replace them with the new files.

I tried both the suggested possibilities. If I decide to replace the files, an error comes up saying "Cannot create Nero 7/Nero Toolkit/NeroBurnRights_eng.chm" (similar errors come up for other files).
If I don't replace the files, the installation apparently completes.

In both cases, when I re-start Nero7 and I click on the help keys, a windows opens and says that help files are not present in my version and that I should download them.

Could you please help? I tried to reach the Nero support by email several times (in Switzerland we don't have a hotline), I feel they will never reply .....

Please make your explanations easy to understand ..

    thank you.

Sounds like the chm files already there for whatever reason are set as read only.

You can go into each folder that they are in and right click the chm file then select properties and remove the check in read only.

You can also just delete the chm file in each folder and then the new ones you downloaded should install.

    Thank you.

I tried to follow your suggestion, which sounded good.
The files are not "read only" (the option is unchecked in properties).
When I try to delete them, this does not work: an error message says that "access is denied".
Finally, if I try to move them to another folder ot to the desktop to delete them (a trick that sometime works when files cannot be accessed in their original folder), the "move" is also denied.
Any other ideas to delete these files? Sorry for bothering you.
    Thank you.

PS sorry I just noticed one thing. The individual files are not "read only" as I said. However, the whole Nero folder where the program is installed, is of the "read only" type. Impossible to unlock it, by unchecking the box (access is denied) or by the utility "unlocker" (which says the the folder in fact is not locked, but it is locked). complex, isn't it?

Is it posable you are on a user account with no admin rights?

If not then try rename the ones in the folders and just add a 1 or something to the name so you can identfy them after it is sorted for deleting. That way the install of the downloaded ones will not see them as same name.

    thank you.
unlikely. it is my home computer, there are no separate accounts (everybody (i.e. my wife and myself) use it without a password). In fact I don't know if this implies that every user has admin rights automatically (I mean, because of the lack of a Windows login password). Is there a way to check this? (XP, Home edition, SP 2). thanks.

You problem is that you can’t manipulate the Nero chm files in Explorer, and you also can’t assess them via the Help button (the “?” button) in the Nero apps.

(Let’s just get this out of the way first.) Assuming you have Windows XP, are you logged in as a Computer Administrator?
See: Start > Control Panel > User Accounts

For reference, these are the chm files that I have. They came with the program:

    Nero7UltraEdition_Enu.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core
    NeroBurningRom_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core
    NeroExpress_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core
    NeroBackItUp_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero BackItUp
    NeroCoverDesigner_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero CoverDesigner
    NeroMediaHome_Eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero MediaHome
    NeroPhotoSnap_Eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero PhotoSnap
    NeroRecode_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero Recode
    NeroShowTime_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero ShowTime
    NeroSoundTrax_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero SoundTrax
    NeroStartSmart_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero StartSmart
    CDSpeed_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero Toolkit
    NeroBurnRights_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero Toolkit
    NeroVisionExpress_ENG.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero Vision
    NeroWaveEditor_eng.chm C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero WaveEditor

Nero’s site http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/User_Guides.html gives several help files, both in chm and pdf. (Make sure you un-check the Yahoo toolbar option if you download them.)

Try un-RAR ing (extracting) to a different folder, something other than your Nero folder and something other than Temporary Internet Files folder. In fact, make a new folder for this purpose.
Double click on one of the newly downloaded chm files. Does it open with Microsoft HTML Help Executable?

Open one of your Nero 7 folders, C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core , for example, and see what kind of chm files you have there. In that folder, you should have:
    NeroBurningRom_Eng.chm and
    NeroExpress Eng.chm .
See if those are the same size as the ones you downloaded. If they are, you have the help files (the chm files) already, and the problem is just that you’re having trouble accessing them.
In Explorer, double click on one of them and see if it opens. If it does, as a workaround, just make a shortcut to it (send it to the desktop). Or you can also make shortcuts to the new ones you downloaded.

Report back. That’s the best I can do for now.

One other thing: You don’t have these help files open somehow, do you? Actually, the alert you’re getting, “access denied”, should tell you that something else is using them if that's the case. But maybe you’re not using WinXP and you get the alert you describe. Anyhow, maybe something not clearly viable is using these chm files. Restart your computer, maybe even in safe mode, then see if you can manipulate the files.

Hi, I've solved this problem after trying 'unlocker', setting folders not read only and GiPO File utilities to 'move on boot'. I even tried command mode.

Finally I noticed that the permissions on one of the folders did not allow write access. So find the offending folder, right click on it, security, and set permissions to allow write access.

If you have INCD running, it may lock the folder, so you may have to kill this task in Task Manager (CTRL ATL DEL).

I'm still missing NeroStartSmart_eng.chm for Nero 7- it's not in the set of chm's to download as at 19/3/06, and the first page of the Soundtrax chm contains no useful text. Hmm.

    DL.
