Nero 7/NeroVision4 DVD/HDD burn failure

I am trying out the latest version of Nero 7 Ultra, using NeroVision to add menu chapters to burn a DVD.

I was successful at burning a DVD about 1/3 through the project, just to test to make sure it worked. It worked, but only that one time.

After completing the menu chapters, I tried to burn a new DVD and it failed after 4 hrs. I saved the log file.

Today, I tried burning to the hard drive, and the burn also failed after about 4 hrs. I save the log file for this too.

I will post whatever portions of either log file if needed, but they are very lengthy (103 pages and 74 pages), so if needed, please indicate what portions of the log file to post.

Both logs indicate at the end KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST. This may mean different things for these logs, but it's the only common thing I noticed. I've gotten some information about Nero 7 burn failures using this error message as a search. Most forum responses emphasize firmware upgrades. I know my DVD drive could use this, and I know what to do. Could this also be applicable to my hard drive? If so, I assume the firmware upgrade is available from the HDD web site.

    Other things I've read are
    * Not enough memory, so burn slower to free up resources (this could be true in my case as my system barely meets the minimum system requirements for Nero 7).
** Try better-quality DVD media (this would make sense if I was only experiencing failures on the DVD drive, but then again, the failure on the DVD drive and the HDD could be separate issues).

I will probably attempt another burn to my HDD while waiting for responses. I will save the log file for that in case it's needed.

    Thanks to all who respond.

    Gwendolin,

I have two failure logs, one to DVD drive, one to HDD. Both logs are very lengthy. I need to know what part of the log to post, and if you want to see both. Also, by the time you read this, I will have attempted another burn to HDD, and may have another failure log to post (if needed).

Also, where would you want me to post my log or logs on the link you gave me? The link appears to be user reviews. I'm confused.

    Thanks.

Edit out your serial number before someone pirates it

You have d/l one version over the other. Personally I do not like version 7.2.3.2 or any version after 7.0.8.2, my recommendation is to uninstall Nero, run this clean tool,

http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then install this older, more stable version, from here

I'm going to uninstall/re-install Nero, and clean out any remnants of Roxio as you suggest. (I had Roxio on my system several years ago, but was unaware anything was left on my system. Thanks for letting me know.)

I'd like to know before I uninstall Nero if I will lost the work I did on my DVD project of adding menu chapters. Is there a way to save it and retrieve it after I re-install Nero? Is it going to make a difference if I install the earlier version of Nero 7 that you recommend?

Right now I'm using the Nero 7 trial version downloaded from the Nero 7 web site. I have purchased the retail boxed software, but haven't opened it yet in the event I needed to return it. I don't know if I can tell the version number without opening the box. But if I decide to use it, which I probably will, is there a way to install the Nero 7 version you recommend if the version I have in the retail box is different?

Also, since we're talking about installing an earlier version of Nero, another thread on Afterdawn recommends a version of Nero 6 over Nero 7 because of all the unresolved problems Nero 7 still has. Would you recommend this too? If so, would I need to return my retail box Nero 7 software and find Nero 6 somewhere? If so, any recommendations where I can buy it?

    Thanks for your help.

Once you purchase a version of Nero you are given a serial number, once you have this serial number you can choose any version of Nero7 that you like.

I use version 7.0.8.2 and have no problems, I have tried the later versions and WILL NOT recommend them.

Will I lose the work on my current DVD project if I uninstall/re-install Nero 7? Is there a way to save it and retrieve it later?

Also, are there any versions of Nero 6 that you'd recommend over Nero 7?

    Thank you.

Do you recommend this version of Nero 6 (6.6.0.18e)over the version of Nero 7 (7.0.8.2) you recommended earlier?

If I decide to go with Nero 6, do you know if I can use the serial number from the retail boxed Nero 7 I purchased? If not, I will have to return it.

Thanks again for all your help.

If you have purchased Nero7 and have a serial number then I would recommend that you install 7.0.8.2, in my opinion it is better than Nero6...however others have found Nero6 to be as good.

    My recommendation????

    Use version 7.0.8.2

Thanks again for all your help. I will let you know if I have any problems after the re-install of Nero 7. If I do, should I start a new thread, or continue on this one?

So far, success. I had a successful burn to HDD today, but only added a couple of chapters to my project (yes, I had to start over) before doing the test burn to HDD.

Before I try burning to a DVD, I wanted to use the menu I had before. It was a 3D animated menu that looked like television screens on robotic arms. Apparently, this version of NeroVision (Nero 7, v. 7.0.8.2) doesn't have it. I tried downloading the menu template package from the Nero 7 web site, and it still doesn't have this menu. None of the other menu templates are very good.

Is there a way to get the menu template I described to work on the version of Nero 7 I have installed now (v. 7.0.8.2)? Are there any other templates available for Nero 7 (v, 7.0.8.2) other than the ones provided in the Nero 7 download for NeroVision 4?
