I am trying to burn DVD-R's (data and movies) through Nero 7 and am unable to successfully complete the process. Everything worked fine for a while, but now only rarely do they work. I only burn at 4x with a LG GSA-2166D external burner and use Sony media (as other threads have suggested). Can someone please look at the error log and give me any suggestions. THANKS! i don´t know what the nero error (-1066) und (-1122)mean, but do you try to burn copyprotected DVD-Rs? this does`nt nero do
Hi rasarcane Here's a couple of suggestions: Still have past of Nero 6 left. So uninstall Nero - run the clean tools then renisntall Nero. Here's a link for the clean tools for 6 & 7: http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Clean_Tools.html Also try another program to try and burn. Try ImgBurn. You'll use the build mode unless the files you are burning are iso's. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/383878 One cause could be the media for this error. Sony's are usually good. Might want to try some Verbatims or Taiyo Yuden. Branded Taiyo Yuden can be bought online from reputable sites. Depending on where you are may be able to recommend a site. Keep us posted!
Thanks again for helping me out, so I tried uinstalling nero 7, using the nero 6 and 7 cleaner tools, and re-installing nero 7. I then tried to burn a data DVD through nero StartSmart. I was unsuccessful, and have posted that log beneath as Log #1. I then tried to burn a movie file via DVD shrink 3.2, and at first, it kept telling me my DVD drive was empty when I would insert a blank sony DVD-R (I have also tried a wide variety of brands and they all seemed to work until recently). I tried ejecting and closing the cd tray about 15 times hoping it would recognize, and sure enough, somewhere around then it actually worked, and burned the entire disc successfully! I decided to push my luck and try again, and pretty much the same scenario took place. 15 tries of opening and closing the disc tray and success! However, I then tried to burn a data DVD via the reugular Nero Burning Rom, and the same situation arose where it said the tray was empty despite a blank DVD-R being present. About the 10th try again, it accepted the disc, only to fail during burning. It seems to burn faster than I want (4x). It only gives me options of 2x,2.4x, or maximum. I saved and posted this log below as Log #2. Could the problem of media recognition be due to my firmare? I tried to update via LG website, but it keeps refusing me (saying it is not an LG site?). I even called customer service and got no where. I tried Clone DVD 2 about 2 weeks ago, and it also acted similar to nero in symptoms, giving me one or two discs out of ten. I installed Image Burn as u suggested, and am still trying to get familiar with it. Essentially I am much more concerned with burning backup data from my hard drives off, and am not sure how to do it with that program yet. I am searching around on here and will hopefully figure it out. Please let me know any suggestions. Much respect! I figured a few things out and decided to try IMG Burn. I made an image of some data files i needed to back up, and then tried to burn the image. Same problem occured where it could not recognize the media. So I went back into build mode, where it decided to recognize it. I then switched back to write mode and began burning. unfortunately, it failed. Here's the log. All my drives everywhere are getting filled and i need to free up space. thanks again... Hey rasarcane okay let's see - so previous media burned ok it's only these Sony's now that are giving you a problem? Could be a firmware problem . From the ImgBurn log it doesn't recognize these discs as 16x stops at 12x. That and many attempts of closing the drive to get these recognized & burned. But in my search even on LG's site you have the latest one. In BuildMode you don't need to swtich to write mode - just add the files and pick the burner and speed (or maybe I misread your post). Anything else change pc media since you were last able to burn? To see if this is a bad pack or incompatible Sony's for your drive - if you have another pc or laptop - try with that one. Next I would pick up some Verbatims. One other thing to check is if you have any ASPI's installed. If you do and one is corrupted might cause a problem. In NeroToolKit go to Info Tool>ASPI tab. See if anything shows corrupted. If it says ASPI not installed that's fine - they are really not needed unless you have an older programs that uses them.
I looked into the ASPI, and it is not installed. In the past I have successfully burned Sony, FujiFilm, Memorex, Verbatim, Philips, etc. As of recent I have tried Fuji, Memorex and Sony, and they all seem to be behaving the same. It seemed like it must be media at first but all seems to respond the same. And, I have no clue why it changed. I cannot think of anything I installed that corresponds with the start of nero's problems. Are there any programs that are especially known to cause issues with nero? Thank u again so much for taking the time...
Roxio's drag to disc (think that's what their packet writing software is called) conflicts but the driver that conflicts is not listed in your log. It would be shown under existing drivers But as far as I know it doesn't conflict w/ ImgBurn. Plus you've now tried 3 programs and different brands of media - all with the same results. It may just be the drive itself heading south (still under warranty?) So you can try this - may not help- but disconnect the burner, turn it off and unplug the power. Give it a minute then connect again - if you have another 2.0 usb hub try that one along w/ another power outlet. A few more things to do - again may not help this problem but good to do on a regular basis. Antivirus and spyware scan, disc cleanup, registry cleaner like ccleaner and a defrag. Though if you are too low on free hard drive space may not be able to do - need around 15%-20% free. Next try this drive in another pc or laptop that normally works burning wise. That would pretty much tell us where the problem lies - the drive itself or a conflict in this laptop and drive. No problem on the help & time
well I tried defragmenting, registry cleanup, spyware sweep, etc. and am still in the same boat. It seems as though audio and DVD video files will burn, just not data (which i need). IMG Burn seemed to write it 100% but then failed on the way out. As sad as it is, this laptop is the only computer I have access to that can support dvd burning. I'll try to keep searching, but if u've got any other ideas, please let me know. I'll try to find a friends computer or something in the meantime. Hi rasarcane Hmmm so just the data dvd's aren't burning now? Here's another suggestion since it's failing at the end of the burn stage -try reducing the file size to under 3.5 gig. Might help. Close everything that you can when burning - no multitasking. I'll see if I can dig something else up too.
rasarcane & binkie7 I have read this thread from top to bottom with great interest, as I too have an almost identical problem with Nero 7. I have done all the things that I know to do, including, uninstalling the DVD burner and the Standard DVD drive, uninstalled Nero with Nero 7 general cleaner and the registry cleaner. After reinstall, I end up with the same problem. A strange anomaly is that it will burn anything to DVD+rRW media but sill not burn anything to DVD+R media. This holds true for copy, Data, Vidio or audio. I think I have made 20 or more coasters in the last week or so trying to figure this out. Its getting a bit ridiculous I have determined that this is solely a Nero problem as other programs such as Roxio will burn with no problems to either media. (this in my mind rules out any possibility of either drive or media problems) I have made sure the Nero's driver conflict tool is always loaded, but the only time I ever had problems with driver or drive conflicts was with Alcohol 120% loaded, so it is currently not loaded. This problem of not burning to DVD+R media is a recent development, as it use to work flawlessly I will post one of my failure logs for review. Anyone with suggestions, please. I really like Nero 7 and hate to think I will have to dump it. My system is running XP Pro on a dell 5110 with 1gig memory. My system is well maintained, (lots of sweeps with all manner of tools) and in top flight condition, except for this Posting failure log: _____________________________________ 5udm.com 5udm.com 5C80001080000000004666046419 Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 11/2/2004 1:54:32 PM NT-SPTI used Nero Version: 7.0.0.0 Recorder: <HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B>Version: D108 - HA 1 TA 1 - 7.0.0.0 Adapter driver: <IDE> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : via Inquiry data (1) -> ATAPI, detected: ? This could be your probelm, as Nero and Roxio are known to conflict with each other... Well Nero conflict with Roxio... Uninstall Roxio and run this zapper http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml
I would agree, except for the fact that they have co-existed for over a year with no problems. I do not allow automatic updates, to prevent just these kinds of unknown/untraceable complication. So nether program has had an unmonitored update lately, and this is a problem that has showed up very recently. In fact nothing on my system other then Norton products has had updates in the time frame indicated by this failure. Now with that said, I believe I will a burn with all Norton products disabled I will post results
I have some good results to report. After posting here about Nero 7 having a problem burning DVD+R media , for me at least a resolution has been found It does not appear to be any of the Norton Products such as antivirus or any program associated with security suite. I did two things since my last post, the first was to update the firmware for my burner. But sadly I did not test the system after this upgrade. The other thing that was changed was something that got over looked in the reinstall of Nero 7. I found a process running called “NWEReboot” in the startup processes. I had to use a tool other then msconfig to know what it was called, as a name for it did not appear in the list only a check box and its registry key location. To identify the process I used TuneUP utilities. I have to be honest and say that it is unclear as to when this process got started in the process startup. It may have been started prior to the reinstall, but I doubt it, because in many previous checks of startup processes, it was never present. At any rate it has been removed So after the firmware update and removal of the NWEReboot process from startup registry, I have completed two full DVD+R data discs and one Video DVD+R disc without problem My best attempt at a conclusion would be that the firmware did not change anything, as the program was working fine before using the old firmware. That would leave me to believe that somehow the NWEReboot process, which is associated with Nero 7 as a caching assistant of some sort was the faulting element. My suggestion to those who have suffered similar problems (not being able to record DVD+R media) would be to update the firmware for the offending burner and to delete the NWEReboot process from the start up registry if it exists. One last thought would be to do a better job then I did documenting your procedures and post them here, so we might know for sure where the problem is My apologies for the miscue, I generally don’t make those kinds of mistakes, but its Monday. Good luck
