I Search but could not find my exact issue.
I am using Nero 8.3.1.2, DVDShrink 3.2 on Vista Home Premium Service pack 1. I am using Imation DVD-R dvds. When I backup a DVD on my vista machine my stand alone dvd player will not play the disc. It's can't recognize the dvd. When I backup the same dvd on xp using the discs it works fine. I can even back up the backup that won't play on the stand alone dvd player using xp and then the new back up will play fine. The back ups done on vista will play on the PC just not the stand alone player. This is really annoying as I just upgraded to vista to connect my PC to my tv/xbox but now I can't make backups.
Anyone know whats up, seems like it may have something to do with the way vista closes the dvd perhaps?

I am having the exact same problem. DVD's copied with DVD shrink running on Visat play fine on PCs but do not play in DVD (or HD DVD) player.

I posted elsewhere about this and I have a similar issue.

I use DVDFab and DVDShrink. It does not seem to matter what brand of media I use. Both stand alone DVD players are a few years old, they both can hold 5 discs.

The backed up copy made on WinXP will play beautifully on the stand alone Sony.

The same disc will continue to be "read" by the Panasonic and won't be able to play it.

I was wondering if there was a specific setting when copying the movie that needs to be checked so most stand alone players can read it?

If anyone knows, please post, I can't afford a new DVD player if there is an easy software solution.

    PEACE

    Gotta love Vista. LOL!

Have any/all of you tried using different brands/type of media?

There are many folks who have no problems with Vista burns playing on their set top DVD players. However, I am not one of them, because I won't touch Vista with a ten-foot pole.

    Poor quality blank media!

Use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony.

Also...Nero 8 can be problematic. Although some people still swear it's stable.

Either revert to Nero 7. Or use the freeware burn engine Imgburn. (mixed with good quality blank media, of course.)

As far as Vista goes...i'm just now starting to come around to it. I use all the same proggies i use with my XP system and still produce good quality burns.

If you could provide an error log for one of the burns that won't play, it might provide some insight.

After many trials, I think I figured out that it's just DVD Shrink and Nero 8. They are not compatible with each other in Vista. IMG Burn seems to do the trick now.

    Good luck everyone.

Nero 8 can be problematic even on XP systems.

Reverting to version 7 or using Imgburn usually takes care of it.

Had same problem. All worked in my pioneer dvd player, but in nothing else. I used Nero 8 vision to convert, then dvd shrink.

Have solved it now. Convert using nero vision, then instead of dvd shrink I have used Nero Express and justed added the Video TS file and burned straight to disc. All work on all dvd players now!

hi guys, just joined. don't bother about using any nero with dvd shrink, it only works with certain media. i only ever had decent luck ripping onto dual layer plus dvd's. they were a-one discs i brought from ebay. very good discs indeed. but as for any othe media, i installed cyberlink dvd suite. i rp the dvd using dvd shrink, then use cyberling dvd suite to burn a dvd folder. so far i have only had a few failures. plus discs are preferable, but it also seems to work with cheap minus discs like woolworths or suchlike. hope you have as much joy as i have had. took me 4 years to work this one out, t.t.f.n.
