Have just done the N8 update )legit copy) which went fine. Right at the end (?) I got an Installer box telling me to download : "MS VisualC++ 2005 SP Redistributable package (x86)"

Did that & now it's asking for the CD to be inserted. Of course, I don't have one.

It now wants me to use Inst Package: vcredist.msi.

I have looked, but cannot find that so can any kind considerate soul assist me please?

Obviously, N8 is not yet showing as been installed.

I sometime wonder why I bother with N8.

Thanks Rotary. This is the link I used. I thought it would be ok.

Are you saying this is incorrect then?

Nice try Rotary but still no joy.

Right, have removed N8 with the cleaner tool & reinstalled it again using the TRIAL version, but still get the same messages as above.

Can someone please advise me where I can find vcredist.msi?

A search of the HDD comes up with nothing either.

Blimey! What a carry on! I don't recall these problems when I initially installed N8.

    Appreciate any assistance.

    Update.

Well, I don't know! I have Googled this file (try it. vcredist.msi ) & the problem appears as though it's insurmountable, as it has happened to quite a few others & even Microsoft cannot give a definitive solution.

Try this & that they say, but no-one seems to know why it's there.
On past performance NERO could take forever to reply, if ever.

vcredist.msi just does not seem to exist.

It 'seems' to be associated with images & has only shown up with my re- installation of N8. It did not occur with the initial N8 install & that was straight forward.

I am surprised that no one else on here has experienced this problem. Why me, why me Lord? :(

As I only purchased N8 mainly for backing up & burning CD/DVDs can anyone recommend suitable & good free progs for this please?

I am not bothered about Vids, movies & all that tosh, just the above.

As an alternative, can I get a download of N7 & use my Nero Registration?

There seems to be a lot of Nero brain power on here so I am sure someone can steer me in the right direction.

I am just sorry that Nero have got my hard earned money.

    Thank you.

I know I seem to be talking to myself here, but I have now installed Nero 8 Lite from..................

& it inst. fine with no request for that stupid vcredist.msi file. In fact it was effortless & is really what I need, except I cannot 'Backitup' but I can do all the rest. I can live with that for now.

In comparison to the full version of N8, the mind simply boggles as to why any designer in their right mind would wish to inflict such a large, bloated (this description crops up a lot in reference to Nero it seems) prog. on the general public without making provision for customising the bloat.

In this case, more is not better. Smaller is better.
Maybe it's a case of "Give 'em more so we can charge 'em more".

If anyone can recommend a good, free Backup prog. I would still be pleased to hear from you.

No need for an apology, Rotary. I wouldn't go back to the full Nero version if you paid me.

DL Imageburn now & it looks ok as well.

    Thanks again

i have it installed but mainly for reference, as i use other software to get my jobs done imgburn being one of them...

nero always has been and is getting worse for being so picky...

nero v6 was like 50/60meg, nero v8 is like 1gig install that unpacks 4/5 gig of crap. v6 rocked alot still use it!

if you can get v8 to install is something, useing the thing yeilds more hassle.

if nero support were on the ball then fair enough, but they seem to be lost in cyber space...
