    i used to transcode an avi file in 90 minutes now takes 4 hours and longer
    cpu is 100% if it falls then transcoding speeds up(nero using 80%)
    have reinstalled nero following support guidelines
    reinstalled xp home
    only nero running
    any suggestions please

    As my understanding, transcoding/encoding uses lots of resources, just because of dealing with lots of data at a time. So it takes as much resources as possible.
    If it takes much longer than before, I suggest checking;

    Memory usage (Nero’s log should have that info.)
    Free spaces of HD, (clean up unnecessary files/apps. Also check DMA status)
    Scan Virus/ Malware
    Interferences with other soft (Any new software installed?)
    Apps those runs behind (Check with Task Manager)

    I hope this helps,

    foregot to say installed new motherboard and graphics card cpu adm 2 6000 also 2g memory every thing was ok for 2 weeks then nero started running slow on transcoding but did not insall anything new - only thing left is hd but this was reformatted before new install - clutching at straws now (convinced it is something simple but what)

    If you talking about converting/encoding (saving to a folder, not the actual burning) DMA burner status makes no difference.

    You can check your HD's speed with this (grab the free version):

    http://www.hdtune.com/download.html

    To check if it's only a Nero problem (rather than a system problem) grab DVD Flick (free) and see how long it takes to convert (set it to not burn).
