I am using Nero 8 Ultra and DVD Shrink to make a back up of a dvd. It will copy and play just fine on the computer. However, when I play it in any dvd player in the house, it will not display the menu and starts in random places of the movie. Any suggestions? Do I have a wrong setting? I am using windows Vista. I never had any problems on my old computer using DVD Shrink and Nero 6.
Try this method instead, much better IMHO, and all free. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/664041
I have tried this process, however when I try to play the dvd in my dvd player it says "unknown disc". I am sure it is something simple I am missing, but what is it? Thanks for your help!!
do you have pal or ntsc set in options ok? sorry just read again so your ripping either a pal or ntsc film from your own region, so it should stay the same, unless your buying dvds from another country?
could be a few things dvdrs used, speed of burn, codecs etc did you use nero v6 on vista? also use nero recode in v8 not dvd shrink. made by same person!
I upgraded to Nero 8 Ultra because Nero 6 would not work with Vista. I expected things to work as they did in the past once I installed Nero 8, but no such luck!! It is strange because the dvd plays correctly on the computer, but not on the tv with the dvd player. Maybe it is dvd shrink that isn't working right? Does Nero Recode take the place of DVD shrink? I will give it a shot!!
if the dvd you made plays on pc and not on standalone dvd player connected to tv, then its probably the dvdrs you used, the player cant read them, what brand are they? what does the tv player do or error messages?
They are Staples +R. When I play the dvd in the tv dvd player, no menu comes up, it starts playing in the middle of the movie and there is no way to make it go to the beginning. I have tried with a couple that I have made since I switched to Vista and Nero 8 and I have tried the dvds on multiple players to make sure it wasn't just the the dvd player.
use dvd identifier to get the code from the dye off the dvdr but can your drive booktype to dvd-rom with those +R ? makes it more like original dvd.... but i advice is get verbatim or taiyo yuden dvdrs ------------- long shot: burn at 4x, make dvdr output size 4300, and dont use menus...
I am having the same issue. My friend uses dvd shrink with nero 8 ultra on her computer with the same dvd+r that I use, when she burns them they work fine, when I use my comp with dvd shrink and nero 8 and the same memorex dvd+r they don't play back in any dvd player, they will play on computer, just not on dvd standalone. tried slowing speed to 4x no success. tried just burning as data using nero bakitup and just burning the iso, still no luck. any suggestions? I know it isn't the type of dvdr. should I just try uninstalling and reinstalling software?
Memorex sounds to be your problem. Get some quality blank media: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm I use mostly Sony and some times Verbatim.
memorex is not the problem, have allready tried ty with no success either and tried using philips brand. Thought for sure the ty would work if it was an issue with the quality of dvdr but that does not seem to be the issue. When i put the disc in the comp all the ts files show up as well so I know that it isn't just leaving out something. If I am just using shrink and nero could I be missing another key ingredient? I've tried fab, anydvd, nero recode, none seem to be working out. Tried on multiple dvds from older realeses to knewly realesed. the burner I am using is hl-dt-st dvd-ram gh10L scsi brand new computer HP brand amd 64x2 2.6ghz 2gb ram...thank you so much for responding I am very grateful for the help....just tried the top thread as well with dvd shrink and imgburn with no success, same thing happens, will play in comp but no in any of my dvd players
So thanks for all the info, this site is awesome. I wanted to drop everyone in this thread some feedback....I figured it out....if you are using dvd shrink and nero 8 as stated in other threads you cannot use the auto burn function from dvd shrink....instead open the disk and let it analyze then save it to your hard drive (you can continue to save over the same file if you prefer to save space) then go into nero start smart, click on the nero icon on the buttom left as this will bring up your nero applications, use nero express and select create data dvd then add the files one by one from the folder you saved from dvd shrink, burn it with express and it should work fine. For reference it worked on all 3 dvr types, ty, memorex and the philips used. Sorry for not reading through all the other threads more thoroughly because I believe this solution was allready posted but if anyone else is having the same issues with shrink and nero 8 ultra running on any vista platform, this is the best solution I have found. thanks afterdawn...you guys are the best...kudos
im no expert on this, but it's definitely something to do with upgrading to nero 8. i upgraded to nero 8 on a friend's computer, who was using dvd shrink successfully and now the dvds will only work on the computer. in his dvd player it says things like disk unknown or starts playing halfway through. as nero is the only thing i changed, it has to be that
dvd shrink does not work with auto burn and nero 8. You can use shrink to analyze then backup and select a hard disk folder to copy to, then encode to the hard disk folder(you can use the same one over and over it will just continue to replace the files) then go to your nero start smart and open up nero express burn using the video/pictures option and then select dvd video files which is the third option. From there find your hard disk file that you created with shrink and add all the video_ts files and burn. This works perfectly but alas takes much longer to do. This is THE ONLY way to burn using nero 8 and dvd shrink. You can try using nero recode and nero 8 and that will auto burn, or use a different burning software like dvd fab or one of the other recommended burners on this great site.
