    Hello All!
I'm using Nero Ultra 7 and Ghost 8.0. I have a ghost image on 2 dvd's spanned out, created right from ghost. I would like to copy these two DVD's so I can use these images at multiple locations. I have tried a DVD copy, but I get LBA reading errors from my ghost DVD. But my DVD is good, I tested it with ghost.

I created a boot disk for ghost on a CD, that works fine. If I use my orgiinal DVD's that ghost created, it works fine with my bootable CD's. If I copy the images to my hard drive, and burn them to a cd, I get a "The disc was not created with Symantec Ghost" error. If I create a bootable DVD with the same boot image I used for bootable CD, then put my Ghost image on, I get, "This is not the first image file of this set", or something like that. I tried the first 5 images, that all that would fit on the DVD, and that how Ghost made the first DVD, and I tried it with just first one. Same thing.

All I want to do is copy the DVD's ghost created for me, so I can keep a set with each machine I made, at locations all over the state. All the machines are built the exact same way.

Any suggestions on how to do this with Nero, or anything else is out there?

    Thanks!!

    Rudy

    Hi

I don't know if this will be helpful or not, however I was a "fan" of Symantec Ghost until I wished to do the kind of thing you describe.
It was too painful. Also you have to have the PC in a non running state when you create the GHOST image. This may or may not be a problem, but if you are running 24 hours x 7 day severs it will be.

So for this reason I switched to use Acronis True Image

    See: http://www.acronis.com/

There is also a home edition now.

    http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

I have found Acronis True Image to be sooooo much better than Ghost. Making bootable DVDs with you disk image(s) on them or spanned across multiple DVDs is simple with Acronis True Image!

No, I don't work for them!

    Hi UK!

I'll take a look into it. Unfortunely I already have all of the computers ghosted, I just want to make a copy of the DVD so each unit has one, and I have a backup of a DVD. I'll think twice before I use ghost again. But right now I'm locked in.

    Thanks!

Try creating the image in the hard disk, and then burn it on DVDs with Nero. Of course the image must be splitted if it is too big.
I do not use Ghost, but this is the method I use with Paragon Drive Backup and Drive Image 2002, which are the imaging programs I use.

    Hi Zap!
You would think that would be the easy way to do it. I have tried that, but then Ghost give me an aerror that the DVD was created with Nero. How weird?

    Thanks!

    Hello All!

So here is a thought. I'm using DVD+R media. Could this be why I'm having problems. My dvd burner is a Pioneer 106D, a couple of years old. I wonder if I use DVD-R, I would have better luck with the older media type.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

When you tried to copy the Ghost DVD(s?) did you use
    (a) disk-to-disk copy via Nero Burning Rom?
    (b) Did you first copy the DVD to an image (*.NRG) file using Nero Burning ROM? and then try to create a copy using that image file?
    (c) Did you just use Windows Explorer (or suchlike) to copy all the contents of the DVD(s) to your hard disk and then burn these files (*.GHO etc...) to DVD using Nero Burning ROM?

Based on what you wrote in your first post it seems you may have used method (c) ?

Please try method (b) and see if that works. I think it likely that Ghost uses logical "labels" or similar on DVDs to mark them, and so a straight copy from DVD to hard disk via Windows Explorer will not capture that, however a full image copy will, as will a disk-to-disk copy via Nero Burning ROM

I very much doubt that the problem is to do with DVD-R vs. DVD+R

    Regards

    Hi UK!

Your right, I just tried and copy the ghost files to a hard drive and then back to a dvd. I did try to use DVD copy, but that didn't work. I did take the original DVD's with the ghost image to a DVD dupe house today. They were able to make a good copy fro my DVD's. So I know the DVD's and images are good.

I did try to copy to a NRG file. I didn't know about that one. I'll try that out, and let you know.

    Thanks!

To make a Nero Image file of a DVD do this sort of thing

    (1) Run Nero Burning Rom
    (2) Select File>New
    (3) Then select DVD instead of CD in the "New Compilation" window that will have just openned.
    (4) From the list now select DVD Copy
    (5) UNCHECK the Write box in the "Burn" tab towards the right of the window
    (6) Now select the "Image" tab and you will see where the image goes and what it is called.
Change this as required. UNCHECK the "Delete image file after disc copy" box.
    (7) Put your GHOST DVD in the DVD drive and select the "COPY" button at the bottom of this window
    (8) When it finished you will end up with a *.nrg file in your chosen location.
Default is something like C:\Documents and Settings\<computer_name>\My Documents\TempImage.nrg

    (9) Now you can use Nero Burning ROM to use this *.nrg Nero Image file to burn a new DVD.
    (10) Put in a blank DVD into your DVD drive
    (11) Now select Recorder>Burn Image
and select the image file you just created
The remaining steps will be straightforward. I recommend that you always select "verify" when you burn important DVDs!

    Hope this helps
    regards from the UK
