Lately, every time I try to back up one of the movies we bought, Nero gets to about 91% through the burn process and then it fails, saying burn error. This has never happened before, I use RipItForMe and have never had trouble. I usually can use ImgBurn after Nero fails, but I was wondering if someone could tell me what is wrong with my Nero? Thank you very much, here is the log:

    Hello.

It appears you installed Nero 7 over the top of Nero 6 without running the Nero 6 Clean Tool first.

You may need to uninstall your current version, Run both the Nero 7 and Nero 7 Clean Tools and then reinstall Nero 7:

    http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html

You're using CMC Mag made media which is of poor quality. Try some Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and Made in Japan labeled media like Fuji and Sony.

You have a lot of memory in use. Shutdown any programs not necessary.

There's a newer firmware, version 103C available for your burner:

    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/rmsd/NEC6650_v103C.zip

You might want to adjust your target output size in your authoring software to 4400mb to avoid burning to the outer edge.

I don't think I'd try burning at 8X with this laptop burner with this poorer quality media. Try 4X.

You might also try using ImgBurn to burn your ISO or video folder.

Thank you for all the advice, I am going to follow all of it. Can you maybe improve my marriage while we're at it? You seem very knowledgeable. Just kidding! I am amazed at everything you knew about my computer from the log, it looks like mostly jibberish to me. If you can tell me my favorite movie from that log I'll give you........I was going to put a dollar amount there but what if you actually guess it?? Thanks again.

You're welcome. Hopefully, these changes will solve your problem. If not, post back and we'll go from there.

How exactly do I do that? Shrink usually opens Nero automatically after encoding, could you please tell me how to manually change the target output size?

And in response to your suggestion about ImgBurn, I did use that and it actually failed on me also for this particular dvd. However, I went back and ran FixVTS and then ImgBurn worked. Sometimes I skip FixVTS if I'm feeling lazy and I paid for it in this case.

    Hi.

To change the target size in DVD Shrink:

    - Select Preferences... from the Edit menu.
    - Click the Preferences tab.
    - Under the Target DVD size: menu, select Custom and enter 4400 in the MB size box.
    - Click The OK button.
