    Nero experts --

I have only ever been able to successfully burn 1 out of about 50 attempts at burning a DVD video while data-only burns seem to work just fine. The write error sometimes occurs at 10%, sometimes 50% and sometimes 98%.

I know I may be using cheap DVDs but I also tried burning to Memorex DVDs (since I'm using a Memorex burner) and received the same burn error messages. I also realize that I may need more memory. I have installed what I believe is the latest firmware for this Memorex drive (JWS6 6.3.1.29). I have also tried burning at 4x and 2x and received the same write errors.

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. Here is the most recent log file.

    @gstoa -

    - that's way too old, unistall Nero, uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools - " http://www.nero.com/en/Clean_Tools.html ", then install 6.6.0.15 but DO NOT install Nero InCD - packet writing software - it doesn't play nicely with standard Nero Burning Rom

    - you, firmware is brand new aboyut a week ago

    - a-ha, as i say, Nero is way too old to recognise your burner correctly

    - DMA settings need to be ON - fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - OMG 128MB is barely enough memory for XP, never mind DVD burning too. you'll be hard pushed to free up enough memory, you really need to get more memory.

    - a little too close to outer edge of discs for my liking. I don't use Recode myself so don't know where you'd tweak this size setting, however if you use DVD Shrink, set target size in Shrink's preferences to 4300MB, thus avoiding outer edge of (future) discs and not sacrificing much space

    - OMG those are the worst, worst, most atrocious utter rubbish discs you can buy.

See this from my signature - [bold]..Memorex/CMC - don't let them near your Burner.....[/bold] - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/195438 - buy decent media such as Verbatim [bold]datalifeplus[/bold]

    - your burner isn't happy with the disc

    - lol, those discs are real bad, and you're torturing them with 8x. Slow it down to 4x but buy decent media such as Verbatim [bold]datalifeplus[/bold]

    - as i said at the beginning, ditch the packet writing software

But as i say - buy decent media such as Verbatim [bold]datalifeplus[/bold]

As per creaky's advice - seems like you have violated virtually every rule for successful DVD burning.

Insufficent memory, poor quality media, attempting to burn too fast, having packet writing software installed etc.

Some reading and learning recommended - explore some of the guides and threads available on this site.

Thank you for your advice. I added 1G of memory, purchased Verbatim DVD+R media, deleted and cleaned Nero then upgraded to 6.6.0.15. I did not install InCD and changed DMA settings to ON. I also am now using DVDShrink and set the target size to 4300 MB. Unfortunately, burn failure is still happening even at the slowest burn rate setting. Any suggestions are appreciated! Here's a look at the log file...

Thank you again for your suggestions. I followed your DMA change instructions and noticed something quite unusual in my IDE Hardware settings as shown below:

    IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
    - Primary IDE Channel
    - Primary IDE Channel
    - Secondary IDE Channel
    - Secondary IDE Channel
    - Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
    - Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller

I have changed the DMA settings for each of these IDE Channels and uninstalled and rebooted. I'll try to figure out why these duplicates are showing up as this is probably why the PIO mode is still showing up.
