You can try updating to 7.10.1.0

Latest firmware is BSOY from here

    http://www.liteonit.com/DOWNLOADS/ODD/SOHW-1633S/firmware/DR16BS0Y.zip

You have Roxio installed, it clashes with Nero, to remove, run this zapper http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

You're using good quality discs and burning at a good speed, try these suggestions and see how it goes

Edit, you still have Nero 6 installed

run this clean tool to remove

did it up and just stop working, or did he do something to mess it up, also is he using different discs than before. Which it would be helpful to know what he did if scenario 2 is accurate. If it just up and one day stopped working I would:

    Check Aspi
    Check if DMA is enabled
    Check Drivers
    Update Firmware
    Clean the optical drive
Make sure the media is not corrupted

If all else fails install Linux!

Trying to track my son down to see what current media he's using. I know he ran out and was buying some new discs.

    1) Downloading v7.10.1.0 now. will try and update later this afternoon.

    2) Tried to update the firmware but got error: "No matched drive detected" Detected drive: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S BPSA I've searched for this version, haven't found anything yet.

    3) Haven't removed Roxio yet. No previous conflicts, so might keep it for now.

    4) Ran Nero Clean Tools, but only shows current v7.7.5.1 on the computer.

Is the error with Nero or DVD Shrink?

I checked and when he tries to copy a DVD he gets the error. But when he uses Nero alone and burns a DVD with the encoded files from the DVD Shrink, it finishes ok.

    Now I confused.

I must confess I am not a big user of DVD Shrink so I will ask someone to assist you further if they can, Cheers.

I would think the error is with Nero since Shrink doesn't have a burn engine. So this is a confusing one.

Try reinstalling DVD Shrink. You can download it from Afterdawn.

When using Shrink - close all unneeded programs - maybe something running at the time is conflicting (?)

Only showing 7.7.5.1 when you ran the clean tool is ok - Shrink just invokes an interface of Nero's to start the burn - that's why you'll see this in the log - Using interface version: 6.3.1.4

For the firmware - this looks like an oem drive - you would need to check with the pc manufacturer for any firmware updates. That or you can crossflash to official LiteOn firmware.
Though if burning fine w/ Nero alone - doubtful a firmware or crossflashed firmware will solve this problem.
