Hello All. I've come to this site many a times, and hope someone can help me with a recent problem I've been having with Nero. My Sony internal burner (530A) is finally dying so I've changed over to using my Sony external burner (810UL), but within about the last week or so... all of my attempts to burn have failed, all around the 50% point... no matter what speed I burn at (4x, 8x or max 16x). I am currently using Verbatim -Rs (code MCC 03), and I don't think those are the issue. I am hoping someone can take a look at my log and hope something 'jumps out' at them. I know there are a lot of experts out there... and I'm counting on someone coming through for me, like AD always does! By the way, I've tried my external 810UL with Clone DVD2 as well, and I get failures there too... SONY DVD RW DRU-810A This was one of my First burners Back in 2007, and the 530 is even older, So my guess it's time for you to Get New burners. You Could try to slow your burn Speed down to 4X. Check for Firmware up-dates. http://www.newegg.com
Thanks for the reply... I'm leaning towards a new burner anyway, so I guess I'll try that. The thing is, I haven't used my external (810) that much at all.. so for it to 'all of a sudden' give bad burns puzzles me. I can still do DLs with no problem, but not single-layers. I don't get it. I have the latest and greatest FW, I believe @ 2.0f. And, I usually burn at 4x (always), but thought I'd try a different speed... just to see if it mattered. I tried 4x, 8x and 16x... all coasters!! I know this may not be the correct place or thread to ask... but any suggestions for a new internal IDE burner??? I'm looking at a Sony 842A and have read some good things about it. Are the Sony/NEC Optiarcs any good? Can't seem to find any reviews on those. If anybody needs to, please point me to another thread. Thanks a lot Berryone... I appreciate it. One more quick question (actually 2), what model is that drive you have and what firmware do you run with it? I read somewhere that there's a cross-flash from some 'liggy' dude (or chick) on CD Freaks... and they've got some custom FW for it... is this the one? By the way, I replaced both my DVD-ROM (NEC) and DVD-RW (Sony 530A) with some spares that I borrowed from work... just to see if they solved my problem and neither did. So, I must have some kind of system issue that came out of no where. I first tried a Nero Recode of 'The Express' with a DW-D22A (OEM) @ 4x and that failed just after the lead-in and then I tried it again with a DW-U18A (OEM) and it seems like it wrote all of the files (disc appears to be full), but maybe it didn't close the disc properly... I wasn't around to see all of it. I figured it was going to work, so I walked away. I have another log... but it might not pay to post if no one knowledgeable will view it. I don't mean that to be a slam... just saying. Thanks for your assistance. I'll keep at it and post if I figured it out. Gregg
The Sony DW-D22A is about 4 years old, so it's not a real surprise that it Didn't work. Try Downloading DVDFab HD Decrypter and use that to Rip your DVD to your Hard drive. Then use Shrink to remove any unwanted Stuff and create an ISO and burn that to A Blank DVD using imgburn DVDFab HD Decrypter: http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm (Free) Imgburn: (Free) http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/imgburn.cfm There are Guides on how to do this
Berryone, I think I found the problem... after trying the D22A and U18A (as temporary drives), I uninstalled all of Nero 7 and ran the Cleantool, then tried Clone DVD and it worked. I burned 'The Express' at 4x with the U18A with no problems. I'm going to try the other drive tonight along with my external Sony... just to see what happens. Hate to waste good Verbs, but I have a ton! Also, thanks for the info. on the Sony Optiarc drive... I just ordered one. The price went down from yesterday too, $21.99 with free shipping! Woo-hoo! Should've ordered 2! Now I'll need to check the firmware on it, as I know that's important to have that up to date. By the way, I use Fab and Imgburn from time to time, and I didn't have any issues with ripping, just burning... but, hopefully that's taken care of and the new drive will be here soon! Just an update, for those who have viewed this thread... I found the problem, it was my 16x Verbatim (yes, Verbatim) MIT media. I ran through a series of other brands of media including Sony + and -Rs, offical TYs, and even the dreaded Memorex... all with no problems! I tried different discs in my different burners (internal and external), used Clone DVD (burning everything @ 4x) and everything pointed to the 100 pack spindle of Verbs I was using. Needless to say, they've already been returned to the local Office Max... and I'll be going back to my Sonys. I know Verbs are highly praised on this site and others, but just be aware that even Verbatim media can be bad... so don't overlook it and say "it's not the media because I'm using Verbs" the next time you run into burning issues. The thing I was seeing the most was the dreaded 'Write 10 11 W2' in Clone DVD. Gregg
