I have burned many movies on my lite-on. I bought my dad a Memorex double layer burner and can't get anything to burn. Tried it in Nero, Dvd-Decrypter, and ImageBurn. I get the illegal disc error message. I even tried just making a data dvd and the same thing happened. I have tried memorex +r and sony -r discs. I downloaded a firmware update(ran it but nothing happened so not sure if it worked). I have scoured the threads and see many references to my problem but have not been able to find anything that works. I am out of ideas so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Here is the log from one of my many failures. brikelbk You have your serial number posted in the log. You need to edit it out as someone will steal your Nero. It is right below just go to the pencil symbol next to your post and put XXX over the numbers. Your version of Nero is behind. Nero 6x is 6.6.0.18 update here: http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php Get package 1 and 2 but [bold]not #3 as it is the stupid INCD packet writer.[/bold] your firmware is one version behind. JWS6 is the latest for that drive: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2082 The old Nero doesn't recognize your drive. The firmware update, and nero update should fix that. You have Nero's own INCD4 drivers installed, and they cause conflicts with Nero big time. You need to completely remove them using Nero's own clean tool: http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html Try those fixes and see what happens. The Sony media you are using is very good media, you are buring at 4x and that is good, and your DMAs are all on. Update and give it another try.
Lets take a look at your burn log first.... First, find this line in your post and edit out your Nero serial number right below it: Begin NeroAPI error log 1axx xxxx............ You Nero is outdated: Nero API version: 6.3.1.29 Go here for the current version download, 6.6.0.16: http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php This is the error as near as I can tell: 7:59:42 PM #9 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 2529 Max track entry count exceeded (3 entries >= 4 layout size, track No 1 not found) I found a couple other odd things as well: Burn settings: Target: Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2 Number of copies: 1 Write speed: 0 KB/s and NeroAPI 7:59:42 PM #1 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 247 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: -1 ( 0:00.-1, 0MB) The last major thing I see is installed InCD drivers: Existing drivers: File 'WNASPINT.DLL': Ver=V1.19, size=57344 bytes, created 4/14/2004 5:50:54 PM File 'Drivers\PXHELP20.SYS': Ver=2.03.18a, size=20576 bytes, created 6/25/2005 11:43:17 AM (Prassi/Veritas driver for win 2K) File 'Drivers\InCDfs.SYS': Ver=4, 3, 7, 3, size=98176 bytes, created 11/26/2004 12:36:24 PM (InCD4 driver for win NT/2K/XP) File 'Drivers\InCDpass.SYS': Ver=4, 3, 7, 3, size=28928 bytes, created 11/26/2004 12:36:06 PM (InCD4 driver for win NT/2K/XP) File 'Drivers\InCDrec.SYS': Ver=4, 3, 7, 3, size=7808 bytes, created 11/26/2004 12:36:26 PM (InCD4 driver for win NT/2K/XP) I think the majority of these problems could be solved with installing the up to date version of Nero and getting rid of the InCD drivers. InCD can conflict with some burning programs, including Nero Burning ROM. It also looks like you are doing a copy on the fly process. I saw Direct burning: true in there. You should uncheck the Burn-at-Once box. Sony media is probably OK. Memorex has problems on occasion. It does not look like that is the problem here though. Use Nero's clean tools to remove the old version. Just follow the instructions. http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html Frank
Thanks for the help guys. I took one SN out guess I left the other. I updated Nero, used the clean tool and tried to update to firmware jws6 again. Is there a trick to that? I run it and it shows up in my task manager but nothing happens. I tried running it from safe mode but have the same result. I'm hoping the old firmware is the problem. Should I be doing something different? Thanks again.
Hi FastFrank We think alike. You saw the same things. I saw that last address to be written thing, and figured the old version of Nero was causing it. Who knows for sure?? brikelbk It should be real easy to upgrade your firmware as you are only 1 version behind. It should pop up with a small program saying it is going to flash the drive, and for you to not do anything until it is finished. Should only take a few minutes to do that. I have that exact same drive in another system, and the firmware update was super easy. JWS6 is a zip file that has JWS6.exe inside. Once the file is extracted, you just execute the JWS6.exe file, and it should take off. I ran it here, and it said no matching drive detected (i am at work, with no burner in the computer, so that is what it should have said in my case).
Still having problems updating my firmware. I run the program and nothing happens. However, it does show up in my task manager processes and when I try to shut down the computer it says the program is still running. I feel like almost there but this one snag. Thanks.
maybe I am on the wrong forum, I am a total newbie to this site. I have burned many backups of my dvd collection using shrink to save them into a file and then clicking "backup" to burn them using Nero. Now, when I tried to do my usual backup/burning process using a dual layer disc (DVD+R DL) and burner to burn, say, a 5 to 6 GB movie without compressing the files as I normally would have to to fit a 4.7 GB dvd, I get the Shrink prompt "maybe too big for disc." I ignored the prompt and the burn process seemed to work but the resulting disc would not play in either my pc or new DVD player. Can anyone help? Thanks.
@senateguy If you post the Nero log which refers to that burn someone will help. Remove the Nero serial(s) # before posting (begins, 1A########, at the beginning of the burn log entry)
I have done everything else, but can't get the firmware to update. I tried calling memorex but they are closed I guess for Christmas. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions. Once I get the firmware figured out, I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again.
