My Nero software appears to be burning very slow. It tells me I am burning a X4. I am using X8 disks. Am sure it burned much quicker before and have always used the same disks. It has just taken me 1 hour 15 mins to burn a wedding video. Am quite new to burners so what do I need to do. Get better disks, use different software or upgrade burner in my laptop?
It is recommended to burn at around half the speed of the disc. The burn speed is NOT set by the disc but by the burner..8X is the maximum speed that the disc can be burned at. There is not a great difference in time between 4X and 8X....the slower the burn the less possibilities of a failed burn. You will find that most recommend 4X. Use good quality discs and try to avoid memorex.
if you think that your burner is burning slower than normal, maybe it slipped into PIO mode instead of staying in DMA! copy and paste your Nero Log here so we can see if DMA is on. If it's disabled it means that it's in PIO mode which will slow down your burner. Here is how you can enable your DMA: http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues if your Nero log shows that DMA is on then there is another reason why your burning process is slow. Is the weding video from digital tape to DVD? or is the wedding video already on a DVD and you are copying it to another DVD? if the video is from a tape and then tranfered to your hard drive then it has to be converted to DVD compliant file format, then it's able to burn to DVD! the converting and then burning may take an hour or so to do. so your times might just very well be right on the money. Now if you're just doing a Copy of a Copy then I would say there is definately something wrong and you should check into the DMA solution. get back to us and let us know.
