I had a Edit shop that I dealt with in the Dark Ages of Sony hi 8 and super 8 edits with those camcorders burn 3 dvd's for me from my mini dv tapes from my new panasonic pv-gs300 camcorder and the fellow whom I know very well burned them to 3 separate TY G02 R- dvd's. Which was what i wanted, just took out a couple of glitches from fumble fingers first use of the corder.

I tried to burn back-ups of these with Nero 6.6.6.0 to my Verbatim R+ media which I use with my Benq 162I burner and the tray kept flying open and a message would appear on the screen asking for R- Media.
This also happened with the internal burner and on 2 other notebooks that I own.

I use R+ media as I use Book Type Management exe. and burn all my backups in DVD ROM.
I do this on my Sony DRX 810UL external burner as well.

I have had no coasters in over 100 backups that I have done since December 2005, my drivers and firmware are all uptodate. However this was source R+ to destination R+.

I tried burning the backups via my 1 Click DVD Copy program that I have on another of my notebooks from the same R- dvd to a R+ Verbatim and everything worked like a charm and the backup was fine.

I phoned the fella at the Edit Shop that did the burn of the TY G02 R- and his partner who is more computer savvy tried burning from an R- to R+ media and had the same problem, the tray on his burner kept opening and the message requesting R- media would be on the Screen.

He apparently made an adjustment within Nero's settings and was successfully able to do the burn on R+.

Has anyone any knowledge of what this maybe as the partner is away on holidays at present and I would like to know how to do this.

    Thankyou.

    Hi Appa
Which app in Nero are you using? You should just be able to do a dvd copy in Burning Rom or Express.
As long as the disc can be read by the drive and the drive you are burning to supports both formats - shouldn't make a diff that you are copying from a DVD+R to a DVD-R or vice versa.
I do it using Burning Rom or Express.

Might want to update your Nero to 6.6.0.18 (not sure which version you are using - no 6.6.6.0 that I know of) - here's some links:
    Package 1

    Package 2 (recode & vision)

Wanted to ask this question in relation to 6.6.6.18 version.
I stumbled across a new Ultra 6 Nero which delighted me. I want to install it on my other notebook and I wondered if I had to install the new disk and get the key and registration done and then whether I then had to use the Nero Clean tool to remove the program and any remnants left behind so there is no over rides on the 6.6.6.18 update that I want to install and use???

Or can I simply install the 6.6.6.18 overtop of the original install. I know that Nero is sometimes picky and leaves behind remnant's like Norton and I don't want to start off with problems. It was our office software tech that did my other installs and I am trying to become more computer savvy and not have to depend on other people but want to do my homework before I start fiddling with some maiden installations!!

All comments would be appreciated, thankyou.
Being a Noob, I always try to err if I am going to on the conservative side and reach out to the talents of the experienced users advice.

    Cheers!!

    Hi Appa
If the notebook doesn't have Nero on it just download the links and install. No need to install w/ the disc 1st then update.

During the install there will be a place to enter the serial #. You can get this usually from the sleeve the cd is in or open smart start on the pc that has nero and in the bottom right hand corner click on the icon w/ a flame in it. There is a tab there that has the serial #.

You can install Nero on more than 1 pc w/ the same serial # - as far as I know that should still be the case. One time Nero said up to 5 pc's but that was a while ago when I emailed them on that.

If using an earlier version of Nero you can just update overtop the existing one - should have no problems.
    Hope this helps!

Thx Binkie for the sage advice and voice of experience. I wondered if you saw my other post earlier where I was wondering what adjustment the Edit Shop computer fella would have done to make the Nero burn the R- TY to an R+ media?
As I mentioned, without knowing that until he gets back I will have to continue to use my other notebook that has the 1 Click DVD Copy on it and it works like a charm, no difficulties doing a fast copy of the R- Source disk to R+, however no matter who tries to use this disc as a source to an R+ on no computer can it be done.
Must be some detail that is not well known about as I have several posts out there and no replies????
The other partner at the Edit Shop whom I've known for a long time indicated that it took his computer savvy partner awhile to be able to get their Corporate 7 Nero to be able to do the backup, but eventually he was able to do it.
    Any ideas???
    Thankyou

Yes I saw the early post (see above) maybe you can walk us thru what steps you take in Nero and which part you are using?
I use Burning Rom or Express in Nero and use the 'DVD Copy' (burning rom) or 'Copy Entire Disc' (express) options. Hasn't made a diff on if the source disc was a different format or not. Haven't had to change any settings either.
It may just be a bug in the version you are using that an update to Nero will resolve.

I normally use copy disc, but what is odd is that the fellow from the Edit Shoptried to use their Nero Corporate 7 version to do the same thing and had the identical problem.
This was with the TY R- source.

While he is on vacation I think I am going to use Nero to burn to a couple of different brands of R- discs and then try all of them as my source disc and see if it makes a difference.
Maybe it also has something to do with the TY R-???

I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the TY -R's. I use both formats of Taiyo and no problem here.

You can post the last log of nero when you try this and see if that may shed some light. Just be sure to edit out the serial # - usually begin w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.
