I run Win XP pro, and when I first installed NERO on my system, I was able to burn a CD in less than 5 min on 16 x speeds, after a wile the time increased and now it’s up to 15 and sometime even 20 min to burn using the same setup. What could be causing this, I do know I have fixed the problem before by reformatting, but I am trying to avoid that again. I even upgraded to the latest NERO and still the same problem. Can anyone help?

2 issues here. First, did you enable DMA mode on your Primary\Secondary IDE channels. Next, many cd-r media out there WON'T allow you to burn "max". I know this because I once owned a Plexy 24x and I had to buy "particular" cd-r media such as Verbatim or TDK. Just be sure when you buy cd-r media that you get supported media that is exact (or more) than what your burner is capable of burning.

media is a big factor here. sense formating fixed that issue before for you it could be as simple as defrag or even turning off programs that run in background.

    Thanx guys,
As for the media i have used Princo for a long time, and they where just fine.
As for the other programs runing in the background, i have tryed cloasing what i think was not nesecery, and still i have the problem.
The fact that i use cable, i allways had trojens, and bugs, when i use debuging programs like Adaware or others i think i might have just removed more than i should and now i have damaged the software, perhaps something to do with window.

you might want to try adjusting the Ultrabuffer in Nero. When your burning the cd, does the Used buffer level tend to jump back and forth? From say 100% to 90something back to 100%? Nero used to drop to 80% read buffer on my system till I adjusted the Ultra buffer and forced Nero to use a larger buffer.. Since Nero wont let you set the Ultra buffer any higher then 40% of your total installed RAM or go above 80 MBs, I'd suggest setting the UB to 5 MBs lower then 40% of your total RAM.

example : 256 MB RAM total would give you a 64 MB buffer. Try giving that a try. and also, might wanna get a memory manager like Memturbo or RAMIdle cause closing down all background apps only frees up the RAM they were using. Be amazed at how much memory you get back using a memory manager.
