Real quick look and then i gotta run, but it looks like your media, and you have INCD installed, that needs to be removed. Even though it is a nero product, it conflicts with nero. I saw illegal disc, and medium unknown in the log. Quick look and that was what stood out. Go to http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html
    to get the INCD zapper.
Try some Verbatim media also. Gotta go late to work again...

Thanks very much for the quick response. It did not make any difference so I will try to purchase Verbatim discs tomorrow and prove that one out.

If you can't find Verbatims, try some Sony media made in japan. but the verbs will probably be your best bet.
this is either bad media, or drive doesn't recognize the media due to firmware being out of date,,, but your firmware is up to date as 1.06 is the latest for your phillips drive. Media and the INCD drivers are the only things jumping out at me. Post back if your burn fails. Use the burn log in program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt You only need to post the last burn from that log. I think media change is going to do the trick for you.

Tried to buy Verbatim locally but no one stacked it.Bought FUJI DVD+R and TDK DVD+RW. Both gave the same result, failed. I have also burned to the hard disc successfully which I suppose is pointing to the media, but I do not think it should be failing this amount. I certainly appreciate your input. Log file of burning to HDD follows.

I just thought of something, and i kick myself for not suggesting it before. DVD+RW discs. They cost more, but until you get to a good burn, you loose nothing cause you can just reformat and start over. This is a good way to test setups without wasting a disc. You can also select "simulation" in the burn settings of nero. It still needs a disc in the drive, but doesn't write to it.

Since it looks like we are mainly dealing with a media issue, you should get this free program:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm
it will tell us who made your discs. The TDK media has given many ppl problems also (Doc Ty hates them worse than CMC media), and FUJI DVD+R is good stuff (genuine Taiyo Yuden), if it is made in Japan. Just check near the the barcode and it will tell you country of origin.
Run your media thru DVD Identifier and see who made the stuff. I didn't see anything wrong with your last log. If you have nero infotool, run it, and tab thru the settings. It also makes a log, and you could post it. The problem with the NeroVision log is that it is hard for me to wade thru. It posts a lot of crap in an uneasy to read format, and i think it is leaving out your ASPI layer check, or i cant see it (could be as i aint getting any younger).
Here is what info tool looks like on the ASPI setting. You should have the green color, if you get red or yellow, ASPI is having problems. Do the check for all drives by selecting different drives in the pulldown.

I have tried copying and pasting info to show you my results as per your last message. If I try to copy and cut butit when I go to enter it the Edit column is faded on copy and paste. So I am at a loss on that.
System ASPI is identical to yours. Configuration is OK other than I do not have Auto Run on. It still will not burn a DVD,failing in the final stages just when you think everything is OK.
DVD Identifier recognises TDK DVD+RW and Fuji DVD+R(made in Japan).

I can burn successfully to my HD ok. Which means it is pointing to the media but my Fuji media failed also along with TDK, Memorex and Maxell.
Am I now heading in the right direction?

the Fuji MIJ should have coded out as Yuden002 which is Taiyo Yuden, the best stuff.
Also i didnt see system Aspi drivers listed in your last log, and they should be there. Also lets see if we can get you to post the nero burn log, not the nero vision log. Since you are using version 6x of nero you should be able to find it in program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt . Just post the last part of the log that begins with Nero History, and right under that will be your serial number, which you want to edit out. The nero log is easier to see, and it lists some things i think the vision log either hides, or doesnt list. It lists multiple burns, so we only need the last one. It will even log a failed burn.
Give that a try, and we will see if you have media problems, or anything left to fix. Remember to do the simulation burn, so we don't make more coasters. I hate to see Tys go down as coasters.

    @tony126,
Its going to take me a some time to wade thru that last burn log. I think i saw your serial number in one log. You can tell the different burn sections by
and your name and serial number are right below that. Go back and edit those out of your post by typing XXX over them or something like that.
I think you were doing a CD simulation with a DVD disc in the drive on that one.
There are many entries like this one:
Your firmware is up to date, i don't see anything else leaping out at me in those logs.
So if i understand this log correctly, it looks like you were taking a CD image and trying to burn it to a DVD disc. Nero will error out, and kick out the media, telling you to insert a CD disc into the drive.
If you are using nero 6 startsmart, make sure it is set on the DVD setting, not the CD setting if you are trying to burn a movie.
Also have you tried using something other than Nero Vision to burn? I use Recode for DVD movies shrinking to DVD5 discs. Nero express is for data/movies that will fit on a DVD5 by themselves. You could eliminate the possibility of media being the problem by using DVD Decrypter to burn an ISO the the HD, then Write the ISO to a disc. The ISO image has to be something that can fit on a DVD5. If it works with decrytper, but not with nero, then its probably not the media, and is something in your nero settings, or the way you are converting your files to DVD.
Have you tried a DVD+RW yet? If you are set in DVD mode, you should be able to try a burn, and with DVD+RWs we don't have to worry about simulation, we can go for a real burn.
Post back with results. It still looks like a media issue going on to me, but the Fuji+R MIJ should have done the trick for you if it was media only. Scratching my head on this one...

Again thanks for your time and patience.
The proceedure that follows is one that I have used successfully before but is now causing problems.
In answer to your question I have tried using DVD+RW discs but have had the same results.
I used Capture video to load film from my Digital camera to my Nero file. I then followed this proceedure:-
    Using NVE3
    Selected Make DVD
    Add video files
    Tabbed thro to Burn video
    Selected Burn
Then asked to load in disc (Fuiji DVD+R)
It failed on writing the lead in.
    The log report ifollows:_

The last log had this error pop up besides the media error.
Try to check your IDE cable to the drive. See if it came loose. If you could get your hands on another burner, like from a friend, we could see if it is the drive itself that has gone bad. It is acting like it doesn't like the media you are using, or the drive itself has gone bad. For media, try as many different brands as you can, to see if you can get one type to do a good burn. If all fail, then it sounds like the drive itself is bad. I say try many different brands of media, because that will be cheaper than buying a new drive. Also the borrowing a drive method, because i don't want you to waste money on a new drive if yours is not bad. Everything else looks good on your log, and it doesn't look like you are doing anything wrong in your process. If the thing fails on lead in, sounds like the laser could be dead in the drive, but i am not sure. The only real way to eliminate the drive is to put a known good one in its place and try a burn. Drives do go bad, and you never know when one will crap out. Most last many hundreds if not thousands of burns. I guess you already tried to do a laser lens clean on the drive? I would try all the cheap and easy things first, and save the drive replacement for last (but it may really be a dead drive). Sorry, i can't think of anything else to do in your case.
That one looks like it didn't like something in your original file, and may have terminated the process because of it. That was why i was asking if the burner worked on a regular movie file. If you can burn a copy of a movie, but this thing fails on the DVD camera files, then it is not the burner, and it is something in those files you are importing.

Something else i just thought of. We could try to get the burner to burn a movie using DVD Decrypter for the burn. It doesn't use Nero, and that would eliminate the bad drive possibility. You had better get DVD Decrypter fast, as I think AD will take it off the site Nov 27th.
Decrypter has it's own burn engine, and will burn a file to a DVD if you tell it to. Check the guides on how to use it. You state it can burn CDs but not DVDs, and i think burners have seperate lasers for CD and DVD in the drive. If it doesn't burn with decrypter, then the drive is probably bad.

I used the DVD Decrypter on two projects.
#1 Was a DVD video film it failed after 8%. (It also failed on my wifes computer)
#2 Was a video my Brother had burned/copied from the TV. This failed after 22%. (It also failed on my wifes computer)
Exercise #3 was to do a simulation of my Brothers disc.
The first part "creating the image" was successful.
It then told me to insert a DVD+R/RW disc.
Having done this I then got a message saying "simulation not possible. Do I want to proceed with burning y/n?". I said yes(?).
The actual process screen shows a line which says "Burning processshows illegal disc".
Then I get a message saying the burn process failed.
Subject to your comments I have come to the conclusion that the DVD Combo I have is kaput. I have a choice of purchasing the same unit or going for an external DVD Combo. If I chose the latter would you have a preference to recommend.

I just picked up on something you said in your last post. Let me show you what i keyed in on:
Now if i read this correctly you tried using dvd decrypter on 2 different computers with 2 different movies, and both failed the same way? I have no way of knowing how knowledgeable you are with computers and the burning of movies process, but if you mess up something in the process, you will not get a DVD copy. Please check out the guides here if you have any doubt about how to do it, as it seems strange that you have 2 computers and both fail to produce a movie. Now the log you have been posting is starting to clear up except for the drive/media issue, and the other computer (with no log posted) could be having issues also. If you try to take some types of files and burn them directly to a DVD, you may be able to view the resulting DVD on a computer, but not a stand alone or portable player. Such as trying to burn an .AVI or .WMA file type. Nerovision is supposed to convert these files and change them in to VOB and ISO and all other files found in a regular DVD video. Your DVD camera may be saving the movies as quicktime or .MOV extension. What i am trying to say is, make sure you have the basics of DVD burning down before we start replacing hardware. I don't want to see you plop down big bucks for something when maybe it is that you are doing something wrong in the file conversion process. A regular movie has a know structure. If you said you were trying to burn Madagascar for example, i could get that movie, and find the very same file type and structure. And tell you what types of programs to use. Here is what throws me off as you say:
So what ever method you were using, it was working. Maybe your drive is bad in the posted log, and something else is going on in your wife's computer?? Well i can only deal with the known posted issue. My psychic abilities only go so far..
As far as drive recommendations, i wouldn't go with the same brand that failed on me, but thats just me. Any of the name brand, Benq, LG, Pioneer, Sony, should work fine. Internal drive replacement is fairly easy, and i would go with an internal just because i have too many things attached to the pc as it is. Externals are ok, easier to set up. Good luck, and post back when you can. Hopefully you will be posting "it works". :)

First of all I need to explain that I only mentioned my wifes computer out of interest and certainly would not expect you to comment on it.
Secondly I had already made my mind up not to replace my CD-ROM with the same make and have purchased a HP dvd740e DVD+/-R/RW, COST $137 with taxes.
The good news is that I have successfully burned DVD-RW & DVD+RW with my test video.
However I tried to Decrypt a purchased film and the Decrypter failed with an I/O message which I am trying to sort out by looking on the internet. Obviosly I would like it to work as it seems to be a very useful bit of kit.
Again I thank you for your time patience/perseverance with me on this and am glad I became a member as I hope to learn a lot more.

I am glad you got it sorted out, and it sounds like it was the drive gone bad. Many times it is software, or techniques used that are causing problems, but it can also be hardware failure, as it was in your case.
For many of the newer films we have to use AnyDVD or DVDFab Decrypter to get past the newer anti-copy programs and tricks the DVD makers use. Another very good program you should get is DVD Shrink. It can take a DVD9 size movie, and shrink it down to fit on a DVD5 much the same as Nero Recode in the nero package, but shrink seems to be easier to figure out for most ppl for some reason. It is also free, and has it's own built in decrypter, though it is no longer updated. With just a little help from the above mentioned programs, it will still rip anything out there. Check out the DVD Shrink forum if you run in to problems using it. There are many good guides for these programs, and i will post a link or two for you.
