Nero cannot see my External DVD Drive

Hi, im new here but have found you after trying to resolve my issue.
So I have Nero 2017 on my Windows 10 Laptop running the latest version of Windows.
I have an external DVD drive that Windows see's just fine, however if I try and burn a creation from Nero, I don't get the option to use my DVD drive, I just get the image burner.
Any ideas any one?

Which app are you using to create your project- Nero Video, Burning Rom, etc.? If not Nero Video, what are you selecting when you open the app?

Nero Video, Then create Disc, DVD. Have done it plenty of times in the past on my old laptop.
When Im at the 'Burn to' stage i just get Image Recorder as an option.

 

I assume you're selecting DVD, DVD-Video.

Did you have v17 on your old computer and recently install it on your new computer?
I'm asking because you can only use a serial number on one computer and be able to activate the patents.

 

Yes, but I have transferred the programme a total of 3 times before the last time with no issues. Surely if it was a license issue then the SN wouldn't take at all rather than give me all the features, just not being able to burn?

 

I'm not sure it's a serial number problem but, if you want to use it on the new computer, then send an e-mail containing your serial number and an explanation to patent.activation@nero.com to get it activated on the new system. It will be deactivated on the old system. Also, note there's a five installation limit before the patents have to be reactivated. Let me know how it goes.

From the one you spoke of, they just replied saying its fine, i had also been in touch with the main help, to begin with they couldnt verify i had purchased the item, then yesterday i get an email with the download link... no ref to my actual question at all. So basically no help at all.

 

As an aside, what was the download link? I'm asking because they removed all downloads in the archives other than v2019 and later.

Oddly, Nero Burning Rom does see the external drive, its just nero video that doesnt?

 

Thanks for the links. They'll possibly be helpful to someone else. I have all the installation files since v8 but sometimes when using files from someone like me it might say it was installed already.

Did you try what I suggested?

Usually, when Nero can't see a drive, it's because the drive is not suitable for the project being burned or the media isn't supported. I don't know the format of your video.

 

I followed the link to turning off the ransomeware protection which is off currently on my laptop so don't think its that.
The file is just an mp4 which I have burnt numerous times before, all very odd.

 

However, was the Controlled Folder access on or off? If it was on, I'd follow the appropriate instructions.

Where did the mp4 come from? Would you mind sharing it with me?

The mp4 has been captured using Bandicam as ive done before.

When you open Nero Video, click on Tools, Erase Disc

Is your drive shown there?

 

Indeed it is! So its just when I get to the actual Burn part it doesnt show?

 

I have to say I'm surprised.

Couple of things-

Walk me through what you're doing with the video, starting out in the editing screen, content screen, and menu screen. Also, when you get to the preview screen from the menu screen, can you play your project.

Secondly, what is your anti-virus program?
