Well I am unable to capture anything using nero, the little preview screen just stays blank. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here or how I might be able to fix this problem? I know that it is nero that is having the problem because I can capture just fine with my other program sonic. But I would really like to be able to use nero because then I can set the capture to start any time I want without having to be there and manually start the capture.

Did you run the device configure in nero?

When I click on the configure button it says that NeroSmartStart.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Any ideas on what to do here?

At this point the only thing I can suggest. Is make sure the capture device (card or whatever) is supported by nero. I think they have a list of presently supported capture devices on there site somewhere. If it is supported then make sure you have at least directx 9.0b, 9.0c would be better. And maybe look into the capture device drivers.

Okay I looked all over the place on their site and couldn't find a list of supported capture devices anywhere, so I sent an email to their customer support detailing my problem with the video capture. What is directx? And where can I find a capture device driver? Keep in mind now, that I have performed video captures, just not with Nero. So I know that it works.

Okay I d/l-ed the directx 9.0c, but hasn't seemed to change anything. Also when I do go to do a capture and then press stop it says unable to analyse file and saves it as 0 bytes, all the while the screen being black.

Okay, I found Nero's list of compatible capture cards. It wasn't very big at all. It says that it supports many more capture cards but were not able to test them all and that they will be updating the list regularly (yeah right, haha!). Here's the link.

Insert a space in the Nero link. Nero (the word) is a live link and posting links with the word causes the problem you just encountered. I'm a fan of ATI Radeon cards for video, so, I'm not familiar with your Conexant.

Altho it says conexant is not officaly supported does not mean it will not work. Also at a later date may be officaly supported. And again I am not real sure where this came from. With what I use though it is either from nero, ulead or the former 321 studios I would think.

Thanks guys. Hey, how is Ulead, is it very good? And what is hardware encoding, is that something that I can do myself to get the card to work? Yeah and I am wondering if they have updated Nero Ultra Edition 7 so that it will work but the free trial is currently unavailable due to updates or something.

Hey BroBear, 3.4GHz! and 550GB! Holy Cow! That must be nice man, I only have 2.8 and 200 on my hp media center that i bought last July. But then again, I'm only a novice and wouldn't know what to do with all that, but pretty cool man.

I'm setting up an Asus mobo with a Themaltake case to OC the P4 to about 3.8GHz. That's still pretty much old tech compared to the OC(ed) dual cores. With the price of HDDs getting lower all the time, I don't see why more people don't have large storage systems. I do a lot of encoding, so the storage is handy. Most DVDs are about 7-8GB and the backup is 4.3GB. It doesn't take long to fill up a small drive. When I'm running batch encodes I need at least 50GB when doing 4 DVDs.

Hey me too, I do a lot of encoding too. Mostly due to all the capturing I've been doing. I try to delete the mpeg-2 files though soon as I have the time to encode them onto dvd. Hey my media center m7160n has a dual core, pentium d, but I have no idea how to oc it, or even what that is other than that it boosts the GHz (speed) of your computer right? It also has a personal media drive bay slot in the front, I guess for a sort of portable hard drive? You can check it out right here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...docname=c00389438&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

    Here's a link to a tech thread where OC(ing) gets discussed. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/235934/1798378-124751
You have to have a mobo with a BIOS that can be adjusted. Most OEM boards are locked. Yours is made by Asus, which is a favored manufacturer of mobos used by custom builders. Asus is the same brand I just purchased for an upgrade build for the P4 I mentioned. If your board is "locked", it wouldn't be much of a task to switch out. There goes the factory warrantee, so you don't want to take that route till you're out of the factory warrantee period.

The HP you have is a nice "out of the box" system; but I'd build a dual core AMD system over the Intel. The AMDs are more friendly to "tweaking" and don't run as hot as Intel.

I took a look at the link, that stuff is way beyond me dude. Although I have been using computers since the time of DOS before windows was available back in '89 in the times of dial-up and bulletin boards and when Prodigy was around and I had my 80286, lol. I did install my own modems and added extra memory one time to another cpu I had, I think I messed it up though 'cause sometimes it would act up on me. It was a compaq, only 90MHz! But I have no formal training in this field and am afraid I would have no idea what I was doing. Which means I should definitely wait 'till the warranty runs out and the cpu is about to be outdated and needs an upgrade. Or maybe when that time comes around it would be cheaper just to buy a whole new one? Maybe I should go to school for this, you think there's any money in it?

LOL A few folks have made a buck or 2 at it.

As for memory upgrades, I don't see how a person could go wrong unless they handled the cards improperly. Memory is a simple plugin on the mobo. Basic rules for working with electricity and electronics apply, and never touch the contacts and discharge static electricity before handling and there should be no problems. A person needs to get the memory supported by the system though.

I read about your problem with NERO not being able to capture video with the Conexant Falcon II card. I have the same issue. Have you had any success??? If not, is there anyone else out there who may have an answer? HELP!!!!! This is driving me CRAZY. Sonic is working for me ok, but I really want to use NERO. It's a great program except for the capture problem.
I'm also having problems with WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER to capture audio (video is working fine), but let's try to work out the NERO problem first.
    Thanks for your help.
