    Hello all,

Been using NVE2 for a year and a half, no problems. 2 weeks ago my computer would completely shut off, just while transcoding to make a dvd. Then last Monday, when I'd import a video file, it would flip it upside down, then freeze.

Next day I upgraded to NVE3, and managed to get the import video/editing features back. But computer still shuts off. Now even the editing feature is freezing up saying "Not Responding".

    Any help??

    Thanks in advance.

Could be a heat problem. Are all of your fans working? Is the heatsink on proceessor free of dust?

Overheating CPU is definitely what it sounds like to me as well.

Both fans are running strong, although the back of the comp is extremely hot, even after the computer has only been on a few minutes.

Surprised this effects just transcoding. Even now when just exporting to an mpeg file, it shuts off after 3 minutes. Does the comp use that much juice even when not burning?

    Thanks

Actually, it uses more CPU horsepower when transcoding than it does when burning. Transcoding is a very CPU intensive function, and that usage is steady during the entire process. Burning doesn't nearly tax the CPU as much. Think about it. You could burn a CD/DVD with an old PIII-550, or even an earlier CPU. I wouldn't even try transcoding video with such a system.

Something's not right about cooling. I leave my pc on and the back is never hot. Did you open the pc up and look inside to see if the heat sink was dirty or vents clogged?

arossetti is right. Transcoding is cpu intensive.

Do you have enough space on your hard drive. For some reason, when I transcode my video, my computer shuts off if my hard drive is under 10 gig.

The machine shutting off and the back of the system feeling very hot could indicate that the power supply is overheating. Perhaps the fan in the power supply has failed and stopped turning completely, or is in the process of failing and is turning too slowly to provide cooling air flow.

Well, I've been transcoding with Nero for a year and a half, no problems.

I'm sure I'm the last one in town, but how/where do I check the HD space on my comp? Any suggestions on freeing up space? Defrag?

    Thanks

definately do a defrag on your machine. also do a disk clean up. You can check the space left on your hard drive by right clicking on your C: drive and go to properties.

    Much thanks, Nay.

Says I have a capacity of 74.5, and right now I have 58.8 in use.

re: Nero...now in just wanting to watch something in Nero Showtime, the computer shuts off. Ugh.

    @McFly76

Solve your heat problem and you'll probably solve the shutting down problem.

Though I did fail to mention I can still copy and burn homemade dvds no problem. Encode and burn for 25 minutes w/o shutting down.
