I have a cut down version of Nero 6 that came with my laptop. In addition, I have a full version 6 copy on my PC. Both of these are adequate for my purposes I do not need V7 on my PC, and the cut down version is adequate for my purposes on the laptop as I very rarely use Nero on the laptop. Recently, after I updated on my laptop (to Nero OEM v6.6.1.4), I now find that every time I run Nero, the prog places an icon on my desktop called "Nero Online Upgrade". This is to encourage me to buy the latest full version. Each time I delete it, it re-appears next time I run Nero. I DETEST programs that behave like this, and I contacted the Helpdesk. They replied by telling me how to upgrade. Eventually they admitted that I would possibly have to uninstall, and then re-install my earlier version. Does anyone know of any registry tweaks etc that could stop this infuriating program from putting its rubbish on my desktop? I know this is a minor point, but this really rips my knitting!!!!! Colin
first off, if you're using Nero 6 get this version .... there's no bugs in it like 6.6.1.4: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe save your serial # and uninstall, then use the Nero Cleaning tool for 6: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html then do a Registry clean, Defrag and reboot the system. then re install using the downloads above...... and you won't get any of that crap that you mentioned about... no icon updates on the desktop! enjoy and welcome to Afterdawn!
Thanks for tyhe answer. I've downloaded the files you suggested and I'll probabbly do it over the weekend. Thanks for the prompt reply Great help, and much much much appreciated
Well I just used the clean tool on my laptop (also did it on my PC since you reccomended it). Both seem to work fine, but the laptop (cut down version remember) still gives me that flipping Icon on the deaktop each time I run it. I did notice that there were in fact 6 "Clean Tools" listed on the link you gave me. I used the "Nero 6 Clean Tool". Should I have used the Registry clean tool? Colin
