I have been getting a message from Nero DMA manager that says, “This application had detected that your drive is not in DMA (direct memory access) mode. To improve your system performance we suggest you to enable DMA for all drives. Do you wish to run Nero DMA Manager for enable DMA mode right now?” When I use the manager the change seems to take effect, I get the message each time. I have checked the settings and the option for “DMA when available” is selected. I did a bit of searching and see discussion relating to cables...
Since installing a new hard drive (computer assembled in 2004), I have been receiving a message on start up “No 80 channel conductor cable installed”.
And, I've looked up that message and see that people often find their writers will not work after installing new cables....

Can the cable be the problem? how can I tell what kind it is... and if I need to replace it, how do I pick the right cable so I won't have problem with the writers?

    Thank you,
    and fantastic information!
I'll be back if it doesn't work....

Is there another problem that might result in the "No 80 channel.." message, or are the two message pretty conclusive?

    Thank you, W
