I know...I can see it now. There is probably some noob setting that I have wrong, but for the life of me...I can't find it. Whenever I convert an mp3 to whatever else the file size and audio length doubles. What I'm left with is the original audio + blank audio equal to the lenght of the good audio. (2:12 original file = 4:24 converted with 2:12 of audio and 2:12 of dead air). What am I doing wrong. This is not a new install and I have converted and burned in the past with good results. That's why I'm sure I've screwed something up somewhere. But what????????

I started getting this error about the same day that you did, though it has been over a month since I needed to use this feature. I am using 6.6.1.14 and have had no trouble converting until this week. I just tried going back to 6.6.0.18 with no success.

I am using WinXP Pro. Maybe MS "fixed" something that broke this feature in Nero.

For Nero 6, you need to convert the mp3 to a different bitrate. The 32k, 16,000, stereo files needed to be converted to 64k (but I'm not sure if freq needed changing, but I did 22,100) and they didn't double. I've contacteed Ahead and I'm hoping they fix it.

My small audiobook/vocal files didn't double in the Nero 7 Demo I downloaded, but I found other flaws with Nero 7, so they don't get my money yet.

OK, here's an update on my personal findings.

Nero seems to work perfectly well with ANY bitrate or sample rate with normal mp3's, either cbr or vbr, for some reason the doubling in length only happens with mp3pro files of ANY format.

Unfortunateley, I only use mp3pro, and as I'm a DJ, and my collection runs to some 25000 tracks, it'd take me a month of Sundays to convert them back to mp3, and I'd lose some quality too, something I'm not prepared to lose.

So for now I just copy and convert any files I want to burn to .wav, then delete them afterwards

I converted my file, created as mp3 from a podcast, to a wav file. The file is still showing up as twice as long (78 min instead of 39), and is still hosing up when I try to insert tracks with Nero (created a CD audio from the file). Seems to be just this one file, so no big deal. Just would like to figure it out in case other files turn up like this.

Did you convert using Nero though ? I didn't, all my music processing is done with Adobe Audition.

I don't agree with the "any mp3PRO" because I that's all I use with old CoolEdit Pro. High bitrates & freq don't double. I had to reconvert before burning. Then I got smart and downloaded the Nero v7 Demo, which works without converting. Here's the word I got from Ahead:

    Thank you for your e-mail.

There is a known problem with MP3 files with low bitrate and low Khz. We´re currently working on this problem and it will be fixed in one of the next updates.
