I am learning to use DL DVDs and so I tried to copy Moulin Rouge - disc 1. It plays beautifully on my pc but isn't recognized by my standalone player (Kreisen or Sanyo). I am using an HPdvd740 burner with Nero 6.6.1.4. I looked at the tutorial and it makes reference to Nero Burning ROM. I don't see a way to go to that specific as it was in my previous version of Nero. Please help?

Try using DVD Decrypter for backing up to a dual layer, rip in iso read mode then open the MDS file and do iso write. Nero is not a good program for dual layer backups. Also I had a Sanyo player which I bought and returned because it does not play dual layer media/backups well. Make sure your player is compatible with +R media. You can go here and check

Thanks so much for your help. I tried it and my Kreisen and Sanyo still don't recognize the disc. Guess they don't recognize DL because they work great with 4.7 DVD+R's. This is VERY disappointing -I was hoping to use DL's for authored projects but guess not since I can't guarantee recognition on all players.

The newest firmware available for your burner is 42JH, which was released on 3/3/06. You may want to update your firmware if you have not done so.

I was unable to locate much information about booktyping/bitsetting with your burner. Some say it will automatically booktype to DVD-ROM, while others say it won't. As far as being a rebadged drive, it could be made by a couple of manufacturers. Therefore I won't touch that one cause cross flashing to the wrong drive could render yours unusable.

Make sure your firmware is updated, then look for the booktype option in Nero. Open Nero Express to the Final Burn Setting page. Click Options button on right of Current Recorder (which should be your 740e) to get to the Recorder Information page and you will find the book type settings in the Recorder options section.

I'm not sure if this setting would override the other software you may be using (ie DVD Shrink, etc.). For me it does, but I am using Nero Burning Rom 7.

I updated everything right after installing so that should be good.
I did as you said in the options but don't see anything about bookmarking. I'm still looking for it :)

Just use the Nero Info Tool, the CD/DVD Speed Tool, if your drive is capable you will be able to do it here.

I went ahead and updated to Nero 7 and have gone to where you show in the pics but I don't have the option to make changes. Everything shows n/a without a way to change it. I downloaded the free trial, installed everything and registered with the serial number I got in my email. It seems I should have the ability to make changes, right? I really want to burn DL's for my video projects of weddings, etc. so they don't have to go on SO MANY discs. The last one ended up on 6 DVD+r's. I appreciate all of your help :)

If the settings are showing n/a then your burner is not capable of booktyping. Anyway booktyping only makes the disk compatible with more of the older players that will not play the +R media. If you have access to another player besides your own, try the burned disk out on that and see if it will play, this will show if it is a compatibility problem with your players, all players, or if the disk is just not correct. There are times where a disk will play on a PC and not on a player. Did you use DVD Decrypter in iso read and then open your mds file and do iso write for your movie? Burn at 2.4x.

    Hi again :)

As I am finding out, my HP dvd740e does not support booktyping so I am going to return it and buy a different one. I am looking at the
BenQ DW1655 Black 16X MAX Dual-Double-Layer Dual Format DVD±R-RW DVD Burner with Lightscribe (Light Scribe) Technology

    http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/allme...cribe-technology-in-retail-box-group-1858.htm

I would appreciate your opinion before I buy this. You said you have a BenQ burner. Will I be on the right track if I get this one?

I have a BenQ 1625 lightscribe which I like very much. Have not had a bad burn from it, has booktype capability, the lightscribe disks come out very good and have no compatibility problem with any of the burning programs I own. BenQ is a very good drive in my estimation and you will find many other members think so too.

I've ordered the BenQ DW1655 and returned the HP. I came away from the deal with @ $100.00 in pocket after the return and new purchase. I appreciate all you have done in helping me make this decision. It sure tells me this is the right place to come for help. I should have my new burner and will let you know how it all comes out :)

You should have gotten the ide cable and also one that hooks up to your soundcard, if not contact whoever you bought it from or go out and get one. It needs to be hooked up.

Hi guys exactly the topic i was searching for.
I have been using DVDfab decrypter on my desk box (pioneer dvr-105 dvd-rw) to backup tons of vhs tapes onto dvd-r blanks with no worries at all. Also backup kids movies onto dvd-r's. I have also a zv6000 lappy with a matshita UJ-840D multi burner thats DVD+r/RW Double layer compatible and I want full quality for my movies as sometimes they do not fit on DVD-r with full quality.
I have NERO 6 ultra and did NOT install inCd as per the general concensus here.
I installed DVD decrypter 3.5.4 on the lappy and used the ISO read mode. I'm sorry if I am a bit daft/inexperienced here but what NERO program do I use now to burn as before and get full quality on the DVD+r dl(I was using RECODE with DVD fab and single layer burner )
    Thanks o wise ones
