i am using nero express ultra and i am trying to make a dvd out of a couple of avi's i have. The Problem is when i try to burn the project, somewhere in the transcoding process i get an error message:

    <ERROR>

    OS: Windows XP Professional, SP2
CPU: GenuineIntel, Intel Pentium 4, MMX @ 0 MHz

    Application data:
    VmVyc2lvbjogVVVKZFExQlRWbHRFVFVOSFF5c29PU2M1QndBNkpUOCt
    MVzk3WjJOck1DRWpQeU1rTTBGeGVIQjBaWE01DQpJbWFnZUJhc2U6ID
...this crap goes on for at least 3 pages.

What did I do wrong? I can burn other dvd's fine and i have burnt this project once before excluding the meus. I even updated my burner's firmware. (NEC 2500a)I though this could be the prob but its seems its happening before the actual buring starts. What did i do? Any help would be appreciated...

I know but that cant be possible. Wouldnt it lock up or something. Its probably just an easy way of saying "Nero doesnt know how to handle this." Thats why there isnt any explanation in the error. Like you said nero's encoder isnt that hot. Im using river past now it seems to be doing a fine job. Thanks for the help. The processor message is weird though.

I have XP Home SP 2. The only time I got a pop up with "application data" in Nero my machine was new and I hadn't yet turned off "Autoplay" for the CD/DVD drives. I put in a DVD+RW or CDRW disc that had some stuff on it while Nero was running. I think XP tried to "Autoplay" it and stuff got hosed. After that every DVD I tried to burn the buffer jerked from 100% full to 10% full and burns took like 10 times longer than normal. For me the fix was to do a System Restore using a restore point before stuff went crazy. Then I downloaded TweakUI and turned off Autoplay for the CD and DVD drives. After that my DVD burner ran fine.

Only trouble with running System Restore is applications you installed since the restore point can "disappear" on you. But it's important to have a working burner so you might want to note any app settings for programs installed since the restore point you use so you can set them
back up after a reinstall if you need to.

In your case since you can burn other stuff okay you might just want to check that Autoplay is turned off and try things again before doing the restore.

Ill try that too. The only problem is i have been burning fine. I burnt the project once, but i decided to go back a setup chapters and a menu. When i tried that things went crazy any now i get that dumb error. I am still messing with to figure out what went wrong. I think i might run a restore point and see if that helps...

Hmm, the other thing might be to try(if you haven't already) scrubbing
the whole project and reconstructing it. By that I mean get rid of anything in the registry related to it. The only big problems I've had
with my CD burner or DVD burner have both been caused by Autoplay corrupting the registry. I'm just thinking some setting or data related
to your project may be stored in the registry and it's corrupted. In my
case completely uninstalling Nero and reinstalling had no effect. It wanted the registry fixed. I know your situation is different but that
msg about "application data" is the common denominator. When I saw that
"registry corruption" is what came to mind. Hope you can fix things without major surgery. :)

well i am going to scrub the registry. I managed to burn the project fine on my laptop. It had to install all the software on it though, which was a drag. but oh well. I will keep trying. i have had problems with this comp before when it came to burning. (i/o errors alot) i dont know what the deal is it was working fine a few days ago... thx for your help Miles...
