I have been burning lots of DVDs with my Liteon Drive and Nero. I switched to a Sony DVD-R and got an illegal disk error. Is it a firmware problem?

Try and update your Nero from here, both packages
    Package 1:
    http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
    Package 2:
    http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Update to latest firmware BSOY from here

    http://www.liteonit.com/DOWNLOADS/ODD/SOHW-1633S/firmware/DR16BS0Y.zip

DMA needs to be on, heres a guide to turn back on

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

It is recommended to have a minimum of 512mb ram to burn DVDs successfully, I would suggest adding a further 256mb, in the meantime do NOT multitask while burning

You have Roxio installed, it clashes with Nero, to remove, run this zapper http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

    gwendolin,

Thanks so much for replying! By reading other threads I learned to update my firmware to BSOY and the burn started and worked perfectly until the end. I then got the PMA update failure which I read is usually a media problem. This is the first time I have tried this media, Sony 16x DVD-R Media, 120 Minute / 4.7GB

Do you think this media might not work with this drive? My log shows

    Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)

I burned at 8x, maybe 4x would work?

    Thanks!

PS I'll fix the other problems also. I never multitask while I burn ;)
