AE1 these are in my opinion the worst discs you can buy and you will find this is more likely your problem.recommend sony,ty or verbatim. the burner is internal (LG), and i've been using these discs for a couple months and had no problems whatsoever until recently, so i doubt it's the discs all of the sudden. sounds like this is a stumper
sorry for the posting, but i did re-install windows about a week ago, wxp pro sp2. don't know if that helps
@dkbond - as mybarras pointed out, there are a few things that need fixing in your setup, but all of that will only work for a while as those media are indeed, utter atrocious rubbish. the whole point is that they are inconsistet, you will have some success with them, then they will let you down - substandard manufacture, pure and simple i'm afraid..
i upgraded the firmware from a304 to a112 and it works fine now, should have done that in the first place. thx for the help though...
