hey i could really appreciate some help. im running nero v6.6 and it keeps failing at about 6% on audio CDs. DVDs are burning fine, no failing but CDs wont complete. ive done scan disk, defrag, scanned, restored - everything i know of but no joy. It was working fine a few days ago, the only thing that changed was someone installed Alcohol burning program and i didnt like it so i uninstalled it and now nero wont work properly. Alcohol created another dvd drive in 'my computer' so i thought it may have been conflicting with nero and thats why i got rid of it. looking through other help forums ive read that a 'driver' may have been uninstalled with Alcohol which was needed for nero, can anyone shed any light on this? im tearing my hair out now cos ive wasted so may discs and its getting annoying!! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanx
Hello. Run the Nero Driver Clean Tool. http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/us/Driver_CleanTool_and_RegistryChecker.html Next run the Nero 6 Clean Tool. Be sure to write down the program serial number first. http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/us/Nero_6_CleanTool.html Install Nero 6.6.0.18 from here. There are two packages: Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe Let us know how you make out.
thanx for the reply. tried to do the driver clean but it says no drivers can be found so i guess this is where my problem lies! where do i get the correct drivers from, do i just uninstall nero and reinstall it or do i have to get the drivers first?
The Driver Clean Tool looks for drivers from other programs that can cause problems with Nero. Run the Nero 6 Clean Tool and install version 6.6.0.18. The links are in the post above. Let us know if that solves the problem.
tried all that, still no joy. thought it may be the actual cd so bought a different make (mitsubishi) and now im getting an error message telling me to insert an empty disk into the drive but they are brand new discs so i know there is nothing on them! i find it really strange that dvds will burn fine but not cds!
OK. Post the last section of your Nero History file. It's in this path: Program Files > Ahead > Nero > NeroHistory Each section begins with a Nero Burning ROM header followed by your name and program serial number. Be sure to delete your name and program serial number before posting. The log provides helpful info for diagnosing problems.
heres the log, not sure if you needed all of it but left it anyway. had to keep aborting because it froze. hope you can find something useful out of the logs, thanx for your help. Hello. I think you have the original firmware for that burner. It's many many versions behind. The latest is version B430 available here. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1798 Click on the version number to download. Then double click the downloaded file to open the flasher program. Locate the burner name in the dropdown menu if the flasher doesn't locate it itself and then click the Update button. Nero InCD is installed and that can sometimes cause problems. Uninstall it by downloading and running the Nero InCD Clean Tool: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/InCD_Clean_Tool.html
hi, uninstalled InCd, didnt make a difference. im abit unsure about the firmware as it warns that updating may damage the drive. is it really that risky?
It's not risky as long as the power doesn't go off in the 30 - 60 seconds it takes to do it. There are no guarantees in life so anything can happen. This is mainly something the manufacturers throw in so they don't get blamed if something goes wrong. I've flashed burners so many times testing things that I've never seen it as a problem. Seriously, I don't know where you're located but this statement did make hearts stop back in the days when burners cost $350 - $400. Not so much these days when they cost $35. I just bought a brand new BenQ 1655 for $33 shipped. In your case, you have the original firmware from Spring 2004. There have been 14 updates or something like that since. I doubt your burner has a clue with any of the newer media since the media tables in the firmware are so outdated. It is quite possible that in trying to flash the newest firmware, it will be unsuccessful because you are so many versions behind. It may be the case that you'll have to flash an older but newer than you have firmware first and contuniue to update in steps. But try flashing the newest B430 first and see if it takes the update. Flashers usually check to make sure conditions are correct for the update. I cannot guarantee this will solve your problem but it is an obvious thing to do.
hey, thanx for ur advice, i ended up sending my pc back into shop as it was still under guarantee so they fixed it for me! thankyou for taking the time to try and help
